chris pickett , artist-in-residence for ceramics, earned his BFA from the Uni-versity of Tennessee in 2001. In the years that followed, Chris maintained a studio practice at his home in Chattanooga,

while frequently working as a studio assistant at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. In 2008, Chris began his graduate studies at the University of Florida and was awarded his MFA in 2011. He grew up in the 1970’s and 80’s in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Childhood experiences filled with Lincoln Logs, improvised tree house construction and action figure forts constructed of twigs and pine needles, taught Chris to love working with his hands at an early age. These early experiences would become a significant influence on his work years later.

Jessi maDDocks grew up in Fort Collins, Colorado and received her BFA from Colorado State University in 2012. She is a functional potter working primarily with slip cast porcelain. The geometries

of the forms and surface are influenced by architecture and organizational systems such as street plans and maps. Jessi has interned for the Artstream Nomadic Gallery since 2012. Her studio is based out of the Studio for Arts and Works (SAW) in Carbondale, CO.

lisa Johnson will return for her third year as an Armory resident. She graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, with an M.F.A. with a concentration in Metalsmithing

and Jewelry Design. She is trained in metalsmithing and jewelry design and frequently incorporates techniques found in ceramics to explore service ware, jewelry, and sculpture. Her passion for teaching classes of all age levels enables her to bring enthusiasm to the classroom to motivate and inspire students to develop their skills, expand their appreciation for art, and find their voice. www.lisamjohnsonart.com.

meet our artists-in-resiDencehiromi kataYama will return for her second year as an Armory resident. A native of Ibarki, Japan, she studied for her MFA in the painting program at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and graduated

in May of 2012. Hiromi received her BFA in Japanese Traditional Painting from Joshibi University of Art and Design, Tokyo, Japan, in the spring of 2008. Hiromi’s love for creative art was founded in the private studio of her mentor Renjoin Sensei, from the age of nine years old. Today, Hiromi’s work is created using traditional Japanese pigments and techniques; through traditional methods and materials, and her belief in cultural foundations in nature. Through her work, Hiromi hopes to share her culture and a little bit of herself with her audience.

WooDY othello , a Miami native, received his BFA in ceramics from Florida Atlantic University. He uses the figurative form and incorporates a sickening palette and textured surfaces to indicate

a sense of uneasiness in his work. Woody delves into the subconscious to depict the strain between outside stimuli conflicting with personal desires. He obsessively makes drawings, paintings, sculptures and video work.

Art Salonelle schorrStimulating conversations with other artists, in a relaxed setting. As a springboard to each of our explorations, professional artists from South Florida are invited to present their work, talk about what influenced them, and examine the work of influential artists showing in museums and galleries.

Our discussions cover the gamut of contemporary art themes, including conceptual, cultural, socio/political, environmental, race and gender focused and aesthetic practices, the materials and techniques used to convey these ideas, and where we fit into the world of contemporary conceptual art. They’re also an opportunity to explore the practical side of being an artist, of professional development and the sharing of useful resources.
