What is communication?
In simple words we can say that just to convey the message
If we go in more detail we can say that communication is the
process of transmit (A B) & Receiving

MEANING AND DEFINITION
MEANING
y The word communication has been derived from the Latin word
Communis which means common. Thus communication means
sharing of ideas in common.
y Communication forms a means of exchange of information. It is a
process through which an information, ideas or opinion is
transferred to more number of persons. The informationtransferred must be understandable to the receiver.

DEFINITION
y Keith Davis defines communication as the process of passing
information and understanding from one person to another
y The American Management Association defines
Communication as any behaviour that results in an exchange of
meaning.

Much of managers time is spent communicating. Henry Mintzberg
found 78% of CEOs time to be spent on communication-relatedactivities involving direct contact with others.

y SENDER
Sender of the message is the person who intends to make contact with the objective
of passing the message to other persons. He may be a superior, a subordinate, or any
other person.
y ENCODING
The process of converting the message into communication symbols is known as
encoding.
y MESSAGE
Message is the subject-matter of the communication. It may be in the form of ideas,
opinions, feelings, views, suggestions, orders, etc.

y CHANNEL
The channel is the medium of transmission from one person to another. eg: written form,
personal contact, phone call etc
y RECEIVER
Receiver is the person to whom the symbols are transmitted.
y DECODING
Decoding is the process by which the receiver interprets the message and translates it
into meaningful information
y FEEDBACK
Feedback means receivers responds to the senders message.
