Banner 9 Introduction

• Banner 8 will coexist alongside Banner 9 during the

transition allowing you to continue to use current forms and

process for modules not yet upgraded such as payroll and

leave entry

• Banner 8 Oracle Forms will become Banner 9 JAVA Pages

• Banner 9 has a new interface with a different look and feel

• Uses the same database, tables, logic and functionality as Banner 8

• A new tool called Application Navigator will be used to

access both Banner 8 and Banner 9

Application Navigator• A single interface used to seamlessly navigate between

Banner 9 JAVA pages and Banner 8 Oracle forms

• Log into Banner to access Application Navigator:

• my.msstate.edu (portal) or banner.msstate.edu

• If a Banner 9 JAVA Page has not yet been upgraded,

the page will automatically open as a Banner 8 Oracle

form

• Application Navigator has a basic set of keyboard

shortcuts

• View by clicking on Keyboard Shortcuts in the bottom right

corner of the page.



Application Navigator• Use any of the following to navigate within Application Navigator:

• Menu icon. Click on this icon to open the Banner Menu.

• Search icon. Click on this icon to open the Search window.

• Recently Opened icon. It is displayed with a count of pages after you

have opened the first page in an application.

• Search box in the center of the page. In this box, you can enter either

the descriptive name or the Banner form code (acronym) to find forms,

pages, or jobs. Find the desired entry and click Enter.

• You can return to the Application Navigator landing page by

clicking on the Mississippi State University home link.

• Use the Sign Out link in the upper right corner when closing the

application instead of just closing the browser.

Conversion Tips for Banner 9(Things to watch for)Menus/Tools (Old Drop Down Menus)

• Options and other menus have moved. If you used to click a menu in Banner 8, look under the

“Tools” (gear icon) (Alt+Shift+T) or “Related” button (relationship icon – Alt+Shift+R). Both buttons

are at the top right of the screen. For example: The Banner 8 Options menu is now found under

Related.

Next Block/Section (Alt+PageDown)

• The keyboard shortcuts, Alt+PgDn and Alt+PgUp, should work anytime you used to use “Next

Block/Previous Block” (Ctrl+PgDn/Ctrl+PgUp).

• There are also new buttons on the bottom left of the window that allow you to go to the previous

(Alt+PgUp) or next (Alt+PgDn) section (block).

• If you previously used Next Block only once on a form, you can use the green “Go” Button near the

top right (or Alt+PgDn). If you used to use Next Block multiple times, the “Go” button only works for

the first “Next Block” action.

• To further get to the “Next Block”, use Alt+PgDn or the buttons on the bottom left of the window.

After going into the record(s), the green “Go” button (top right) changes to “Start Over” (F5) which

functions much like “Rollback”.

Dates

• No longer use the date format: DD-MMM-YYYY (23-FEB-2017)

• Entered in mmddyyyy format (02232017).

• To enter the current date, type any letter and [TAB].



Conversion Tips for Banner 9(Things to watch for)

Search/Filter

• Click the Filter

button or use

F7 to access a new page

for searching or filtering.

• If you’ve already entered

search criteria, pressing

F7 doesn’t always clear

those filters, but

sometimes leaves the

filters you’ve previously

entered.

• To clear the search

criteria, click “Clear All”

• F8 still works to execute

or apply your search/filter

criteria. Otherwise, click

“Go”.

Field Search/Lookup

• Click on ellipses or arrow to the right of the field to display a list of values or

perform a search.



Conversion Tips for Banner 9(Things to watch for)Rollback/Start Over (F5)

• You can now click “Start Over” (Top right where the “Go” button

often is) or use the new keyboard shortcut F5 to perform what used

to be called “Rollback”. (F5 in Banner 8 is GoTo – Use the Search

icon in Banner 9 to open another page).

Closing a Page

• The X to close a page has moved to the top left. You can also use

the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Q or click CANCEL in the bottom right

of the window.

Notifications

• Instructions, Warnings and Errors now pop up in the top right

corner of the screen. Be aware that notifications will cover the

Start Over / Go button and other things in that corner of the screen

until you dismiss the notification (click the number in the top right

corner).
