The Foundations of Registration Course Interest

Southern Ohio Medical Center is an organization built on a foundation of many departments that are all significant in ensuring the highest quality of care is provided to the patients of SOMC.

It takes all of these departments, jobs and staff members to adequately provide the highest quality of service. Being such a large company, there is much to learn about other departments and how important their role is to the organization.

For instance, the Registration Department plays an integral role within the organization. They are essentially the first face a patient is greeted by when they step in the doors of any SOMC facility.

The Registration team plays a significant part in establishing a first impression with our patients, assisting them in where they need to go, preparing them for their hospital visit and so much more!

Would you like to know what a registrar does on a day-to-day basis? Well, you now have a chance to learn!

Interest is being gathered for a possible course on registration and learning more about their department. If you are interested, please email Dallas Miller

at [email protected].

SOMC Pharmacy Technician Opportunity

Have you ever thought about becoming a pharmacy technician? Now is your chance!

Scioto County Career Technical Center (SCCTC) will start their next Pharmacy Technician Program on July 1. The course will last only six months and requires 600 hours. SOMC is a clinical site for the program. For those interested, there will be information sessions at SCCTC on June 10 at 3 p.m. and June 12 at 3 p.m.

SOMC has positions available for pharmacy technicians and provides tuition assistance for employees and family members.

Additional financial assistance is also available from the Scioto County Technical Center to non-family members that are interested.

Stephanie Arms and Shona Williams, both pharmacy technicians at SOMC Inpatient Pharmacy, would encourage

anyone interested to pursue a career in their field.

“It is fast-paced and hard work, but it is rewarding,” Stephanie said. “I have been here almost 28 years, and I love it. I wouldn’t still be here if I didn’t.”

Shona said she feels the same as Stephanie and loves her job. She plans on working at the hospital pharmacy until retirement.

“It’s such a good opportunity,” Shona said. “I have been here for almost 12 years, and I don’t plan on going anywhere else.”

Shona also said that there are so many different opportunities to advance your career in pharmacy and expand your knowledge of the field at SOMC.

If you are interested in becoming a pharmacy technician and would like more information, please contact Jeremy Janney at ext. 8598.

Check out SOMC’s Online Store of Surplus Equipment

Our online auction process has been overhauled and improved with our new SOMC uBuy application. Users can log-in to the system to view items, see the minimum price and highest bid on each available item and place bids all in the same place. The principle is the same, but users can stay better informed by seeing the dollar amount of the current high bid on an item (only the amount shows and not the name of the bidder). We will still post new items on Fridays. Items will go up at 10a.m. on Friday and will be removed at 9:59a.m. the following Friday. All other processes will remain the same.

Check out the online store by visiting the following link:http://somcintranet/Public/Policies/MaterialsManagement/OnLineStoreOfSurplusEquipment.html
