May 2016 The business community has made substantive investment in technology transfer to low income countries to ensure that basic newborn commodities such as weighing scales, resuscitation equipment, and medicines are available in appropriate formulations and at affordable prices.

May 2017 All countries have reviewed progress in implementation of the Every Newborn Action Plan and reformulated national strategies and plans to address gaps in implementation

May 2017 The UN and partners have reviewed and published global progress in implementation of ENAP and highlighted gaps

Countries, donors, civil society groups,

professionals, and businesses are leading this effort in support of Every Woman Every Child. Every Newborn builds on key platforms like FP2020, A Promise Renewed, the Commodities Commission, and Commission on Information and Accountability.

A comprehensive consultation process whereby all stakeholders are given an opportunity to feed into the plan and countries identify specific bottlenecks and solutions

Actions for Civil Society • Community health workers: Support preventative care around birth and

referrals to basic and comprehensive facilities. • Community leadership and accountability: Solve practical problems, hold

health providers accountable to providing quality services, strengthen links between community and facilities, promote incentives for community health workers.

• Champions: Develop local champions, including parliamentarians, parent groups, professionals, community health volunteers and community leaders; engage and link champions for RMNCH+A to integrate newborn messaging

• Demand: Generate and sustain demand for services using community owned actions

• Adolescents: Give special attention to adolescent girls; help prevent early and unwanted pregnancies

• Seek care: Utilize community health workers, skilled birth attendants and midwives to obtain essential maternal and newborn care.

• Quality and accountability: Be a voice for change. Demand quality, affordable, accessible services. Report poor services. Demand zero tolerance for maternal and newborn death.
