Setting Up Your Interactive Notebook
• Today we will set up your table of contents and index of key terms
• What is an interactive notebook?– A notebook that is organized in such a way as
to help you find important information easily
Page Numbering
• Tonight for homework you will finish numbering all of the pages in your INB, this will help you to find specific notes and key terms as we learn throughout the school year
• For now let’s number the first 30 pages of your INB to get things rolling– both the front and back of each page get a number, – begin by writing the number 1 on the top right hand corner of
the first page,– flip the page and in the top left hand corner write the number
2,– continue this way until you have written the first 30 page
numbers
Table of Contents
• At the top of page number 1 write - Table of Contents
• The Table of Contents will need three columns, with the center column being the widest
• Use a ruler to create these columns and label them as follows:– Date– Title– Page #
Table of Contents• Set up the same columns on pages 2 and 3 of your
INB
Index of Key Terms• Open your INB from the back
cover, now turn three pages in– these final pages will serve as our
Index of Key Terms
• Title the top of the first page Index of Key Terms
• Using a ruler, split the page into 4 sections as shown
• Each section represents a letter of the alphabet, starting with A, this page will contain the letters A, B, C, and D
Index• Create the rest of the
index the same way– The second page will
include the letters E, F, G, and H
– The third page will include the letters I, J, K, and L
– The fourth page will include the letters M, N, O, and P
– The fifth page will include the letters Q, R, S, and T
• Stop after T and wait for Mrs. Stabler to continue
Index
• The final page of our Index will include the letters U, V, W, X, Y, and Z
• X, Y, and Z will share the final box
