Sextons of St. Thomas More Parish
Antonio F. Perry He started to work as Sexton from May 1932 and retired in Jan. 1977 after 45 years of service. From Azous, Portugal, Antonio married Maria and had 2 children ~ Sarah and Manuel, lived on Caswell Street (Church property), later on Rodman Street. He was responsible for fixing the Church bell in the belfry in Dec. 1933. He had his flower and vegetable garden known as “Perry’s Garden” in the corner of the Church property. Altar Servers used to help him in the garden. Some Altar Servers of those days remember it even today. He was a straight forward person loved by all parishioners and was member of the Knights of Columbus. Antonio was awarded “Man of the year” in 1969, and given a silver bowl by the Parish Council. He said on his retirement: “I have done everything except preaching”.

Robert Gagne He started to work in May 1977 and retired on Mar. 31, 2000 He retired after 23 years of faithful service to St. Thomas More Parish. All through the years, Bob was here to answer the needs of the parish. He opened the doors of the Church to welcome all our parishioners into our house of worship. Whether it was preparing the Church for a funeral, wedding, special sacraments of First Eucharist, Confirmation or myriad other functions in the Church or Parish Hall, Bob made sure everything was in order. The grass was cut in the summer, the snow was shoveled off the walkways in winter, the paths were cleared for smooth entry into the Church. The Hall was
always prepared for religion classes, the floors always clean.
Alan T. Clarkin He started working in May 2000 and retired in Dec. 2006 after 6 years of service. Alan has faithfully attended parish needs both large and small. A quality which might best described this wonderful man is faithfulness. Every morning you could set your clock by his car pulling into the parking lot at 7.30 am. His love and devotion to all things of God was manifest in the way he carried our every aspect of his work. No matter how deep the winter snow, Alan would arrive early to break a path to the church door and clear the walkways. Often his son Brian would be with him to lighten his
Dad’s work. Alan took such great pride in the appearance of the properties at STM and St. V. Every flower bed was mulched in early spring. The courtyard by the church was in every sense a prayer garden, as the seasonal flowers projected in brilliant color the awesome glory of God.
James Logiodice He started working in Jan. 2007 until Jul. 2014 after seven and a half years. All through the years, Jim was here to answer the needs of the parish. Steven Iovino He started working here in Aug. 2014. Steve is a talented handy man. He opens the church in the morning, prepares the altar and greets all the early faithful with big smile. Steve takes care of all of the maintenance (setting up/cleaning the classrooms for Religious Ed, meetings, shoveling, etc.) of both churches: St. Thomas More and St. Veronica.

The Reproductive Health Care Act is dangerously close to becoming law of the land. Men’s Bible Study Our parish has a very active group of men, who for more than 16 years, have met each Saturday at 7:30AM in a "round table" format to discuss the Sunday scripture readings. It is very informal and attended by some scholarly and not-so-scholarly folks. It’s rewarding and even some fun. Bring your coffee and come on over to St. Thomas More parish hall!

Next weekend, we will have our monthly Food Collection. Please donate any non-perishable food items: gravy, cranberry juice, canned hams, boxed potatoes, rice, cans of juice, juice boxes, cereal, cookies, crackers, peanut butter, jelly, coffee, pasta, pasta sauce, baked beans, soups, canned fruit, canned meats/tuna fish, personal hygiene products, diapers, dish & laundry detergents and gift certificates. Please deposit items in the bins at the Church entrances. Non-perishable food items may be left at the Church entrances at any time during the month.
St. Thomas More Parish Winter Blood Drive
Do No Harm We listen quite a while before we get to the “punch line” of the first reading today: even though it would be an easy thing to do, David will not harm the anointed one of the Lord. We, of course, know that Jesus is the Messiah, the anointed one of God, but the Bible uses this term for many different people. It is scriptures way of indicating who has been chosen by God for a special place and mission in salvation history.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus presents a greatly enlarged list of those who, as children of God, we should not harm, but love instead: our enemies, those who curse us or do us harm, those who owe us money, the ungrateful, the wicked. The point of Jesus’ teaching is not to encourage these kinds of behaviors in others, but rather to form us in the image of our heavenly Father by increasing our opportunities to love unconditionally, expecting no return; to be merciful and forgiving, even when it would be easier not to.
