The Ascension of the Lord (Cycle C) Pastor’s Corner The Ascension of Jesus was the condition for us to receive the Holy Spirit. The third person of the Blessed Trinity will be in charge of carrying Jesus’ work to completion. The Church will start its evangelizing mission after Christ’s ascension and the descent of the Holy Spirit. The disciples will continue Christ’s work by preaching the good news that we are called to eternal happiness. Christ has left us the task of working in this world in order to attain heaven. For our part, we must strive to make this a better and more just world as we carry on Christ’s work. We must strive to make him visible by faith, by hope, by love. This is the period between Christ’s first and second coming, and we have been given the world to convert it, to transform it, to take it to Christ, to God. Today I want to remember all mothers on their day. We pray especially that they may continue to be signs of blessing and of the Lord’s presence in our lives. Congratulations to all the children who have received or will receive their First Communion these days, and my appreciation to all the teachers and catechists who prepared them. All are in our prayers. Congratulations!

Rincón del Párroco La Ascención de Jesús era la condición para que nos viniese el Espíritu Santo. La tercera persona de la Santísima Trinidad será la encargada de completar la obra de Cristo. La Iglesia comenzará la misión evangelizadora del mundo a partir de la ascención de Cristo y de la venida del Espíritu Santo. Los discípulos continuarán la obra de Cristo. Tendrán que predicar la buena noticia de que todos estamos llamados a una felicidad eterna. Estamos encargados por Cristo de trabajar en el mundo para conseguir el cielo. La continuación de la obra de Cristo por nuestra parte supone tratar de hacer un mundo mejor, más justo. Debemos tratar de hacer visible a Cristo con la fe, con la esperanza, con el amor. Estamos en el período que va entre la primera y la segunda venida de Cristo. Y se nos ha dado un mundo para convertirlo, para transformarlo, para llevarlo a Cristo, a Dios. Hoy quiero recordar a todas las madres en su día. Pedimos muy especialmente para que continúen siendo signos de bendición y presencia del Señor en nuestras vidas. Felicitaciones a todos los niños que han recibido o recibirán su primera comunión en estos días y mi gratitud profunda a todos las maestras y catequistas que los prepararon. Pedimos muy especialmente por todos ellos. ¡Felicidades!

Bishop Danilo Echeverría, auxiliary of the Archdiocese of Quito, Ecuador, celebrated Mass with us for the victims of the earthquake in Ecuador on Tuesday, April 26, and gave a talk afterwards. A total of $1,480 was raised to help. Mons. Danilo Echeverria, obispo auxiliar de la Arquidiócesis de Quito, Ecuador, celebró la misa con nosotros por los damnificados del terremoto en ese país, seguida de una charla, el martes 26 de abril. Saints this Week/Santos de la Semana

Saint Damien de Veuster, May 10, member of

the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus

and Mary, he won recognition for his ministry in

the Kingdom of Hawaii to people with leprosy or

Hansen's disease, who were required to live under

a government-sanctioned medical quarantine on

the island of Molokaʻi, whom he served from 1873

to 1889. Part of a team of four chaplains taking

that assignment for three months each year, he soon volunteered to remain permanently, caring for the people's physical, medical and spiritual needs. Damien contracted the disease and died of its complications. He was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI on October 11, 2009.

San Damián de Veuster, Mayo 10, miembro de la Congregación de los Sagrados Corazones de Jesús y María, es reconocido por su ministerio entre los leprosos del Reino de Hawaii, a quienes sirvió en la isla de Moloka’i desde 1873 a 1889. Inicialmente miembro de un equipo de cuatro capellanes que servían por tres meses cada año, se ofreció de voluntario para permanecer allí atendiendo las necesidades físicas, médicas y espirituales de los enfermos. Damián contrajo la enfermedad y murió de complicaciones de la misma. Fue canonizado por el Papa Benedicto XVI el 11 de octubre de 2009.

The Jubilee of Mercy El Jubileo de la Misericordia

A “year of the Lord’s favor” or “mercy”: this is what the Lord proclaimed and this is what we wish to live now. This Holy Year

will bring to the fore the richness of Jesus’ mission echoed in the words of the prophet: to bring a word and gesture of consolation to the poor, to proclaim liberty to those bound by new forms of slavery in modern society, to restore sight to those who can see no more because they are caught up in themselves, to restore dignity to all those from whom it has been robbed. The preaching of Jesus is made visible once more in the response of faith which Christians are called to offer by their witness. May the words of the Apostle accompany us: he who does acts of mercy, let him do them with cheerfulness (cf. Rom 12:8).

The students of the month for April, as well as the recipients of the Fr. Federico awards, were honored at the school Mass on April 29. These students were recognized as embodying the Spirit of Saint Hugh by having displayed one or several of the attributes described in the acronym for Spirit: Service, Prayer, Integrity, Respect,

Resilience, Intellect, and Trustworthiness. The Father Federico Commitment to Catholic Education Award is

given to students who are committed, motivated and show

relentless effort to doing their very best both academically and in

character development.

Congratulations to our April students of the month. We are very

proud of them and wish them continued success.

On Saturday, April 29th, our second graders

received their First Holy Communion. We thank

their teachers for preparing them to receive the

Blessed Sacrament, and pray that they will grow in

love and friendship with Jesus.
