Come Spend An Hour With Me Eucharistic Adoration on Tuesday

after 7:00 am Mass till Wednesday at 6:45 am

Notes from Fr. Joe Wormek Did you hear last weekend’s Gospel when it was men oned: “But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never have for-giveness, but is guilty of an everlas ng sin." If

you listened to last week’s FORMED ar cle, it is when the people in the Gospel said, "He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and "By the prince of demons he drives out demons." Je-sus came by the power of the Holy Spirit. When the peo-ple denied that Jesus came from God and said that he came from the prince of demons, they then cut them-selves off, so that no ma er what Jesus did in miracles they could not come to faith in Him. You can hear this at h ps://formed.org/study (Opening the Word - 10th Sun-day in Ordinary Time) by Dr. Tim Gray. For me this was a different explana on than what I heard before. Part of our life journey to heaven are retreats or days of recollec on. That is when we spend one day or a few days on a more intense me of prayer, reflec on and listening to spiritual talks. We have offered those days of reflec on in Advent and Lent. We have had in the past Christ Re-news His Parish, too. The Divine Mercy Cenacle is another parish group that con nues to influence people’s spiritual lives. Well, I will be leaving this Sunday a ernoon for my annual retreat. I will be back Thursday a ernoon. My place of retreat will be Pallo ne Retreat House in north county. This retreat is just for the Archdiocesan priests, which I like to a end. There are other retreat houses in the area, such as the White House and Kings House. Would you think about going on a retreat? I know parish missions perform a similar, but not iden cal experience. We are contem-pla ng having another mission in the future. Thanks for all you do!!! Fr. Joe Wormek

Prayer Before Mass

Come Holy Spirit and quiet my heart and my head, as I gather with my friends and neighbors to celebrate Mass. I am saint and sinner. Open my ears to Your words. Open my mouth in prayer and song. Open my eyes to see Your mystery in symbol and sign. Open my heart in love for You and my neighbor. Qui-et the thoughts and distrac ons that will keep me from prayer. Strengthen me to take the Mass into my life this week. Amen.

Bless Our Fathers

Heavenly Father, Today we ask You to bless our earthly fathers for the many mes they reflected the love, strength, generosity, wisdom and mercy that You exemplify in Your rela onship with us, Your children. We honor our fathers for pu ng our needs above their own convenience and comfort; for teaching us to show courage and determina on in the face of adversity; for challenging us to move beyond self-limi ng boundaries; for modeling the quali-

es that would turn us into responsible, principled, caring adults. Not all our fathers lived up to these ideals. Give them the grace to acknowledge and learn from their mistakes. Give us the grace to extend to them the same forgiveness that you offer us all. Help us to resist the urge to stay stuck in past bi erness, instead, moving forward with humility and peace of heart. We ask your blessing on those men who served as father fig-ures in our lives when our biological fathers weren't able to do so. May the love and selflessness they showed us be returned to them in all their rela onships, and help them to know that their influence has changed us for the be er. Give new and future fathers the guidance they need to raise happy and holy children, grounded in a love for God and other people - and remind these fathers that trea ng their wives with dignity, compassion and respect is one of the greatest gi s they can give their children. We pray that our fathers who have passed into the next life have been welcomed into Your loving embrace, and that our family will one be day be reunited in your heavenly kingdom. In union with St. Joseph, whom you entrusted with Your Son, we ask Your generous blessings today and every day. Amen

Dynamic Catholic, Alive! - Are you Humble? Are you humble? What a tough ques on to answer! When we look at our Catholic history and tradi on, we see that all the great saints were humble people who understood just how weak and sinful they were. In response, they con nued to rely on the grace of God to overcome their weaknesses and to make them a new crea on, capable of spreading the love and joy of Christ to others. Think about St. Joseph, St. Francis of Assisi, or St. Teresa of Cal-cu a. Are they not some of the most humble people you could ever imagine? This humility we are called to involves understand-ing where sin remains in our lives and seeking to overcome it. It involves walking the journey of life with sinners and not becoming self-righteousness. It means that we must be quick to listen and slow to anger. How can you grow in humility to become a be er witness for the Kingdom of God? archstl.org/dynamic

The Big Picture We hear about the Kingdom of God in many of Jesus' parables. In today's passage, he uses parables to describe how the kingdom will spread. What is interes ng is that they are not

so much about our ac ons as they are about how God builds his kingdom. Let's start with the second parable: Jesus exaggerates a li le, with the mustard seed being the smallest seed and the bush being the largest plant. Like the birds on the branches, Jesus implies that the growing kingdom will a ract outsiders to be members. His point is that the kingdom may look small at first, but it will keep growing. We need not be discouraged when it seems the kingdom is not growing: We might be limi ng it to people who think and act just like ourselves. We might see a endance at church in our parish declining. So Jesus is re-minding us to think of the bigger picture. In the first parable about the man who sca ered seeds, Je-sus says that those seeds produce a harvest, even though the farmer doesn't know how or why those seeds can grow. We too can be doing things that help the Kingdom to grow, with-out knowing how we are helping. But God is making the king-dom grow in his own way and in his own me. Like the farmer, we can help it grow by loving each other, teaching our children about Jesus, caring for the poor and the sick. But we can also hinder the kingdom by being s ngy with our love, or hur ng people with our anger. So let us ask God to trust him as we do our part to help the kingdom to grow.
