SGA Help Desk
The Student Government Association held an information desk in the
Bolick center for the first week of classes, to assist students old and
new with any questions they had.
Club Day
The Student Government
Association worked hard during
the summer and Fall semesters
to recruit new SGA members
and club representatives. The
application for membership was
open for all students
throughout the summer and the
first three weeks of the Fall
semester. Membership was
granted to students who:
*Had a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher (not including incoming freshman)
*Enrolled in at least 6 credit courses for the semester
Welcome Back Social
The Welcome Back Social was the kick start to a great semester. This
was the first event that the SGA had planned with our brand new
members, and it gave us all a chance to collaborate as a team and get
to know one another. The event was a success. We received more
attention and participation than the previous Welcome Back Socials at
PVCC. We incorporated three unique activities to the event that
included a pie-eating contest, a professional joggler, and face-painting
artists.
SGA Wintergreen Retreat
The Wintergreen retreat was an incredible opportunity for the new
members to get together and discuss plans for the new academic year,
and elect student representatives. During the retreat, we elected our
executive board members,
filled the college standing
committee vacancies, and
began preparations for the
current and upcoming
semester.
Ice-Cream Social with Mary Baldwin
The SGA sponsored an event with the Mary Baldwin office to bring
attention to the campus trailers behind the student terrace. This is
where the offices of Mary Baldwin university, the SGA conference
room, VA Club office, and the ping pong room resides. Free ice-cream
was given with toppings to students, faculty, and staff members.
Voter Registration Event
The Student Government Association encouraged the students to
register to vote on campus using the TurboVote website. Along with
Va21 and PTK, we hosted the Voter Registration Event for three
consecutive days in the Student Bolick Center.
WADAH AL MULHIM (PRESIDENT) AND
BRANDI REY (VICE-PRESIDENT) WERE
PART OF THE PVCC 5TH DISTRICT
CONGRESSIONAL DEBATE AND SERVED AS
STUDENT BODY REPRESENTATIVES.
Popcorn and Presidents
This was an SGA and Va21 sponsored event. Students, faculty, and staff
were invited to watch the last presidential debate in the North Mall
Meeting Room. Popcorn and bingo games were given out during the
presidential debate.
The Student Government
Association hosted its
annual Casino Night and
invited all students,
faculty, and staff
members to participate.
The event was another
success for the SGA, and
participants were highly
satisfied with the
organization.
SGA CASINO NIGHT
Cupcakes and Candidates
The Student Government Association hosted a watch party of the
presidential election results in the North Mall Meeting Room. All
students, faculty, and staff were invited to attend. Participants enjoyed
eating cupcakes and watching the election results!
Facebook Page Update
The SGA Facebook page has shown a dramatic increase in the number
of followers over the time period when the new executive board took
control of the Student Government account. The executive board has
worked really hard to get the word out about our club, it’s events, and
sponsorships. Our goal is to get more students involved with the
campus community in order to give them an even better college
experience and let their voices be heard!

Members of Outstanding Service Award
September
Prior to emigrating from the Philippines, Julianna was an economics
student at the University of the Philippines Diliman; she served as an
executive member of her university's freshman council. After a bout of
health complications, however, she took nearly a year off to
recuperate. Julianna returned to school last August, Fall 2016 being her
first semester attending PVCC. Currently, she maintains a 4.0GPA and
enjoys participating in various club activities. As an SGA Senator, she
hopes to further immerse herself and serve the Piedmont community.
As a business student, she would like to eventually attend the McIntire
School of Commerce. You'll often find her studying in the library.
