Operator ControlsCrown’s robust X10 handle placesall control buttons in the optimumposition for ease of operation witheither hand and to minimise handand wrist movements. An ergonomic forward/reverse thumbwheel allows for precise manoeuvring.The control hand grips are urethanecovered for insulation from cold andvibration with integrated horn buttonsfor easy activation. The handle con -tains a safety button which reversesthe direction of the truck should thebutton touch the operator.The physical effort to hold thehandle at a comfortable height wasminimised to reduce fatigue.A rabbit/turtle switch incorporatestwo levels of programmable travelperformance so operators can selectthe setting that matches theirexperience level or applicationrequirements.Exclusive brake override featureallows slow speed travel with thehandle near vertical. This featureimproves manoeuvrability in tightareas.

PerformanceThe SH 5500 Series incorporatesthe latest generation AC drivesystem enhanced with Access 1 2 3technology. Crown’s Access 1 2 3technology continuously monitorstruck systems and adjusts systemparameters to deliver optimum per -formance and control. The AccessDisplay provides a conve nient inter -face for operators keep ing theminformed of any changes impactingtruck performance and allowingthem to choose from three perfor -mance profiles when enabled.Programmable performance settingsenable authorised personnel to tunethe lift truck to different operator skilllevels, or to meet specific applicationrequirements. In addition, up to 25PIN codes can be assigned toindividual operators and matched toone of the pre-programmed perfor -mance profiles if desired.Electronic power steering allows theoperator to manoeuvre heavy loadsin tight spaces throughout the daywhile minimising fatigue. Smoothtravel and lift performance combinewith excellent controls provided bythe X10 handle to increase produc -tivity.The SH 5500 Series features ramphold and speed control to improveoperation on small inclines or ramps.The ramp hold feature uses themotor to prevent truck movement

when the brake is released and notravel command is present. Theramp speed control feature ensuresthat actual travel speed matchesrequested travel speed. If the truckencounters an obstacle, a powerboost feature delivers up to 15percent more power than normallyavailable for a full three seconds toovercome the obstruction.

Electrical SystemA heavy-duty 24-volt fused electricalsystem utilises microprocessor con -trols for maximum energy efficiency,reduced maintenance and infinitespeed control capability.Access control modules for travel, liftand steer are sealed from dirt, dustand moisture for trouble-freeoperation. All contactors have beeneliminated except for the main linecontactor. A SBE 160 red batteryconnector with disconnect handle isstandard.

Hydraulic SystemHeavy-duty hydraulic motor (3.3 kW)is transistor controlled and matchedwith a gear type pump selected foroptimum lift performance and lownoise. Single-speed lift with programmableacceleration – deceleration andprogrammable two-speed loweringenables customisation to matchoperator preference or applicationrequirements.Cylinder rods are hard-platedchrome with polyurethane seals.Relief valve tuned to capacityprotects all components in thehydraulic system. Reservoir incorpo -rates an in-tank 10 micron returnfilter for removing debris from oil.

Drive Unit / BrakeHeavy-duty gearbox with helical spurinput gear for quiet operation.Regenerative motor braking isactivated under a downhill condition,during plugging or when the direc -tional control is returned to neutral.An electro-magnetic brake, springapplied and electrically released, ismounted on top of the drive motor.The electro-magnetic brake servesas the parking brake and applieswhen the control handle positionmoves from the operating zone tobrake zone during truck operation.

Power SteeringElectronic power steering isprovided by a heavy-duty AC motorthat pivots the drive unit when steertiller movement is detected.

MastHigh visibility two and three-stagemast design with angled crossbracing and lift cylinders locatedbehind nested I-beams providesmaximum visibility for load position -ing and placement. Crown’s stagingcushions coupled with loweringdampers ensure smooth operation.Rolled steel outer mast channelsand inner I-beams roll on canted,steel, anti-friction roller bearings forminimal current draw and long life.Mast and chain rollers are sealedand lubricated for life. Telescoping mast sections nest toreduce truck length. Heavier mastcross bracing design increasesstiffness.

Serviceability / DurabilityThe Access display simplifies servicefor technicians by providingadvanced diagnostics without theneed for separate handsets. Thedisplay allows the technician to viewevent service codes and truck hourswhen event occurred, performsystem calibrations or functionaltests of components, and makenecessary adjustments. Crown’sInfoPoint System complimentsAccess 1 2 3 diagnostics with on-truck component maps andinformation nuggets to furthersimplify troubleshooting. Removablesteel power unit doors are hinged forease of opening providing excellentaccessibility to the distribution paneland all other components. Steelcovers provide added protection tocritical internal components.Removable steel battery covers andhinged cover allow easy access tothe battery. Battery removal can beaccomplished from either side.Battery compartment rollers arestandard.The X10 handle incorporates avacuum die cast process using high-grade aluminium and benefits fromstructural webbing for maximumstrength and durability.
