“Asia. The East. A land of contrasts, from glittering megacorpskyscrapers to humble sacred temples. Japan, Malaysia and
Hong Kong set the world's accelerated pace of progress, but next door in Indochina and Indonesia it's still last
century. It's a mystery to most, but if you know yourdrek, you’ll find it's a land of opportunity. Anything
you want is here. Cred. Gear. Flesh. Hell, I evenheard of a guy finding enlightenment. There’s
always a price, of course, whether it's sellingyour soul to the corps or your sister to the
slave trade.”

5Shadows of Asia
Shadows of Asia explores the largest continent in detailfor the first time in Shadowrun. Like the previous Shadows ofNorth America and Shadows of Europe, it delves into the cor-porate intrigues, political struggles, underworld dealings, strange magics and dark shadows of each country in Asia.
Shadows of Asia is presented as a series of electronicdocuments posted by Captain Chaos, sysop of the vastShadowland archive and data haven—the number one sourcefor shadowrunners on what’s going on in theworld of Shadowrun. The documents comefrom a variety of sources, undergroundand mainstream, but are directedtowards an audience of shad-owrunners. These sources areeach unique in outlook and per-spective, influenced by theirown particular prejudices andinterests. Each article ismarked up with a runningcommentary by shadowdenizens who add to,revise and contradict theoriginal post. Theseinserted comments addinnuendo, allegations, opinions, rumors, mis-conceptions, misinfor-mation, lies and some-times even the truth tothe information present-ed. It is left up to thegamemaster todecide what infor-mation is correctand which is just fill-ing, as appropriateto his or her game.
The first chapter,Neo-Asia, examinestwo primary facets ofthe East: businessand spirituality. Firstit provides anoverview of themajor corpora-
tions’ activities throughout Asia, focusing on the strugglebetween the dominant Japanacorps and the rival PacificProsperity Group. It then delves into the wide range of reli-gions, beliefs and magical traditions practiced by the vari-ous Asian peoples, from Buddhism and Daoism to Hinduismand Islam.
The chapters that follow each take a close look at thecountries in one particular region of Asia. Chinese Puzzle
examines the dozen plus Chinese splinter states, from theindustrial Canton Confederation to the communist
stronghold of Henan. The Indian Subcontinentintroduces modern India and its surrounding
states, including the Kashmir Wastes andmysterious Tibet. Japan provides an
overview of this changing country, from the policies of the new boyemperor to its interesting culturaltrends. The Middle East covers theturbulent struggle between a mili-tant Ibn Eisa and his former allies, and how it affects each of the coun-tries there from Arabia to Israel andPalestine. The numerous factionsstruggling for power are the mainfocus of Russia, as well as the inter-
nal strife between metahumans andshapeshifters in Awakened Yakut.
Southeast Asia details a wide range ofwar-torn countries and their turmoils,
including the naga uprising inCambodia and the ongoing revo-lution in the Philippines. Finally,The Rest of Asia touches uponvarious countries that didn’t fitsnugly into other region write-
ups, from Matrix-savvy Korea to thewidespread islands of Oceania.A Game Information section wraps up the
book, providing advice to gamemasters on how touse the information on each country and including a
selection of plot hooks to play with. Rules are alsogiven for employing Eastern magical traditions as
well as the standard checkpoint, border crossing andMatrix statistics for each nation.
