'Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha':Poorly written convoluted tale

JOHNNY DEPP QUIPS ABOUTASSASSINATING PRESIDENT TRUMPLONDON, (IANS) Hollywood star Johnny Depp was unin-hibited about sharing his feelings about US PresidentDonald Trump when he took the stage at the GlastonburyFestival. Depp was at the fest to introduce a screening ofhis film "The Liber tine", repor ts eonline.com. "Can we bringTrump here? I think he needs help," he said. "It is just aquestion. I'm not insinuating anything. By the way, this isgoing to be in the press. It will be horrible. I like that you're all part ofit. But when was the last time an actor assassinated a president?" Hiscomments to the nearly 2,000 fans seemed like a reference to AbrahamLincoln's assassination in 1865, when he was killed by actor JohnWilkes Booth. Explaining his remark, Depp then said: "I want to clarify,I'm not an actor. I lie for a living. However, it's been a while and maybeit is time. Thank you so much for having me here."

Tom Cruise affair with Rebecca De MornayLOS ANGELES, (IANS) Actor Curtis Armstrong has claimedthat actor Tom Cruise had an "intense affair" with his co-star Rebecca De Mornay on the sets of the film "RiskyBusiness". Armstrong appeared alongside Cruise, who was19 at the time, in the 1983 Paul Brickman movie and in hisnew memoir, he has revealed the "Top Gun" actor had amassive affair with De Mornay, repor ts aceshowbiz.com.In his soon to be released memoir "Revenge of the Nerd",the 63-year-old star wrote: "It's no secret that Tom en-gaged in an intense affair during the shooting with DeMornay. Returning late one night, I found three or four younggirls - late teens, I suspect - lined up in the hall outside ofTom's room. "I remember thinking 'Tom's going to be reallyupset if these hot girls interfere with his Bible reading'. SoI asked them, with all the stern gravitas of my 28 years, ifthere was something I could do to help them.

Gigi Hadid to call it quits with Zayn MalikLOS ANGELES, (IANS) Relations between singer ZaynMalik and model Gigi Hadid, who have been seeing eachother for nearly two years, seem to have hit rock bottom.Hadid said in a statement to aceshowbiz.com that she wantsto end her relationship with the Former One Direction mem-ber soon as she is unable stand his dependent behaviour. The 24-year-old singer's struggle with anxiety is taking atoll on their relationship and she feels "suffocated" by him."Zayn still gets incredibly worked up over every little thingand it's really wearing Hadid out. He's become dependenton her, and she feels trapped. Everyone around her is con-vinced she'll end it by the end of summer," a source said.Whereas Malik recently shared that his anxiety is at a"much more manageable place".

Designed as a mystery thriller with doses of re-incarnation andsupernatural fantasy, "Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha" is aconvoluted tale not wor th your ticket money. At the very outset, you realise that this film is a waste of resources, when thecaretakers of the castle react in a very dramatic manner whilediscussing the recent history of the castle. From there, thenarrative graph just slides downhill, with unintentionalbloomers after bloomers.Packed with fuzzy logic, we are given to understand, Natasha(Natasha Fernandez) desires to get married at her ancestralcastle in a remote English countryside. So a month before hermarriage, she travels all the way there along with her fianceSunny (Upen Patel). En route, she accidentally tumbles into alarge water-body and is rescued by the enigmatic Devdhar(Shiv Darshan). Sunny senses that he will soon lose Natasha, and is convinced by the caretakers of the castle that Devdhar isan "aatma" -- a wandering soul who is trying to claim Natashaas she resembled her grandmother or mother, the RajkumariAsha. So while Sunny tries to keep Devdhar at bay, Natasha fallshook, line and sinker for Devdhar and is willing to kill herself. But she is stopped in time by Devdhar, only to reveal that he isno "aatma" but an assassin who has been offered 10,000pounds to pretend to be a ghost and would get an additional5,000 pounds to ensure that Natasha kills herself. And now thatDevdhar is in love with Natasha, he vows to unveil the mysteri-

ous person who wants Natasha killed. This forms the crux ofthe tale. While the actors are committed albeit with their limited scale, they play their par ts earnestly but in a per functory manner. ShivDarshan as Devdhar, Natasha Fernandez as Natasha, UpenPatel as Sunny, Rumi Khan as Natasha's father Ramnesh Singhalong with Soni Kaur as Rita and Lalit Mohan Tiwari as thecaretakers of the castle, they are all effective. But unfor tu-nately, for the actors, it is the script that is their waterloo. Withfour writers credited, the plot and the characters are cardboardthin and a quick-fix. No time is spent on developing the charac-ters and their motivation. Instead, it directly plunges into theaction which makes the entire tale seem forced. What's more, the dialogues seem heavy duty and poetic. If youfollow the words seriously, you would crack up for the idiosyn-cratic expositions. At times lyrical, they make the entirenarrative seem like an unintentional comedy. On the productionfront, the film is technically well-mounted with ace productionquality. The frames captured by cinematographer AmarjeetSingh are ar tistic and notewor thy and astutely layered by editorArchit Rastogi. The music rendered by Nadeem Saifi ofNadeem-Shravan fame offers tunes that are so reminiscent ofhis 1990s hits. But, they by no chance elevate the viewingexperience. Overall, it is unbelievable that this film is mountedby the seasoned filmmaker Suneel Darshan, who had earlierdelivered films like "Jaanwar" and "Andaaz".

"I'm feeling good. I feel like I've left a couple shotsbetween yesterday and today, but still 4-under going into theweekend is not bad, and I know if I'm consistent through thenext two days, then I'll have a good chance," Aditi said. With the course seeming to suit her game, Aditi added, "Yeah, the course, it's good. It's kind of long on a couple holes forme. But I think it's a really good golf course because it's kind of tighton a few holes, and even if you don't hit it that long -- I've been hitting itstraight, and that's been rewarding me. "So just trying to be in the fairway,be on the greens, and create enough birdie chances. I've holed a fewputts in the last two days, so that has helped, too. I think it

India beat West Indies by 93 runs in 3rd ODIMS DHONI'S SWEEP MAKES A RARE APPEARANCE , WEST INDIES V INDIA, 4TH ODI, ANTIGUA.

NORTH SOUND (ANTIGUA), (IANS) Combined effor ts helped Indiabeat West Indies by 93 runs in the third One Day International cricketmatch here. Chasing 252 on a slow track on Friday, the West Indiesnever looked in the contention as the hosts were bowled out for 158 inthe 38.1 overs. Jason Mohammed (40) and Rovman Powell (30) werethe highest contributors to the cause. Shai Hope (24) also playedsensibly but failed to display a match winning knock. For India, off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and left arm leg spinnerKuldeep Yadav scalped three wickets each and medium pacer HardikPandya took two wickets. Earlier, put in to bat, Ajinkya Rahane andMahendra Singh Dhoni hit half-centuries as India posted 251/4. Rahaneposted a steady innings of 72 runs off 112 balls to help the visitorsrecover from a rocky star t. Dhoni remained unbeaten on a quick 78runs off 79 balls. His trademark big hitting towards the end helped theIndians go past the 250-run mark. The duo put on a par tnership of 70 runs off 96 balls to help the visitorsrecover. Pacer Miguel Cummins was the most successful among theWest Indies bowlers with figures of 2/56 in his ten overs. Asked to batfirst, the Indians were off to a poor star t with opener Shikhar Dhawanfalling early. The Delhi left-hander showed poor application when hetried to lift a Cummins delivery over third man, only to offer an easy

catch to Roston Chase on the boundary.India skipper Virat Kohli also fell to a poor shot when a Jason Holderdelivery cramped him for space and Kyle Hope pulled off an athleticattempt, diving to his left at gully. Rahane and Yuvraj Singh then gottogether to steady the ship with a slow but steady par tnership of 66runs off 101 deliveries. Yuvraj, who was not exactly in the best form ofhis life, managed to score 39 runs off 55 deliveries before he mis-judged the line of a delivery from Devendra Bishoo that spun into himafter pitching.Although the on-field umpire was indifferent to appeals of the bowler, the hosts decided to contest that decision and were rewarded whenthe television umpire sent the veteran southpaw back to the pavilion. That saw Dhoni and Rahane get together for another long par tnershipbefore Cummins put and end to the latter's patient innings. Rahane hitfour boundaries and a six during his 112-ball vigil in the middle. To-wards the closing stages, Dhoni loosened up his arms and showedflashes of his old self with some big shots to perk up the visitors' runrate. The former India captain had four hits to the fence and two wellhit sixes to his credit. Kedar Jadhav gave him excellent suppor t fromthe other end with a quick-fire unbeaten 40 runs off just 26 balls whichincluded four boundaries and a six.
