Set in a local Conservation area in the Lon-don Borough of Kensington and Chelsea this project sees the reworking of a building cur-rently established as four separate flats into one single family home. Externally the various inconsistencies of win-dow forms and stepping of the plan are har-monised to contribute to the appearance of the conservation area. Similarly a new porti-co is added at the front. Areas of flat roof are re-worked as Sedum roofs to improve upon the sustainability and ecology of the build-ing. New additions are similarly finished in sedum and throughout a series of high qual-ity rooflights are let into the roof to provide daylight and sunlight. Daylight is brought into the interior through a wide range of windows, rooflights and glazed screens. The stairwell provides light into the heart of each floor plan. Solar cells are located in areas of retained slate roof.

“Shape Architecture have been involved in our residential basement conversion project from inception right through to the final stages. We have been very impressed by their continual professionalism and dedication to the project. They have been supportive to us, as clients, throughout the project and have always been responsive to what was needed at the different stages. The level of service received has been very personal and we have felt that we were a

priority throughout. We would thoroughly recommend Shape Architecture to others.”

“Shape Architecture opened our eyes to a number of new ideas, beyond (but importantly including) our original brief, which we are very pleased and excited about. Introducing contemporary elements into a Grade II listed building isn’t always easy, but the listed building consent was granted without a hitch and we already have a start date in the diary. We can highly recommend Shape Architecture - even though ours was probably one of the smaller projects in their portfolio, it was treated with the same respect and professional-

ism as larger contracts, which wasn’t the case with other architects we approached.”Louisa and Steve Yeoman, Client
