Project details

• Solution– Origin Digital’s custom transcoding application was isolated

and designed as a cloud service– Development team explored the architecture and the cost

structure of both Amazon Web Services and the Windows Azure

• Results– In about two months, the cloud service integrates into the

Origin Digital central management platform while offloading much of the processing to the cloud.

– The number of transcoder instances automatically scales to handle increased or decreased volume.

Benefits and Technologies

• Real-time scalability – add/reduce computing power in minutes• Worry-free database – optimal performance with no DBA effort• Quicker time-to-market – add new geographies in minutes• Reduced costs – Up to 50% saving and no system admin

“We’re seeing significant reductions, in some cases half, in computing resource cost for comparable workflows by using Windows Azure. The resources appear and disappear as needed, which will save us money while removing practical constraints around capacity.”

Mark Richards, Vice President at Origin Digital
