A PREDATOR & PREY MATH GAME FREEBIE

The Rules Teacher Prep: Laminate your choice of game board, game pieces, and math fact cards. Cut game pieces apart and assemble according to directions on page 3 & 4. Each group will need a game board, game pieces, and math fact cards OR dice. If using dice instead of fact cards, place 1-3 dice with materials in a plastic bag. To Play: This game allows for 3-4 players. One player will be the shark and the remainder of players will be the minnows. •  Goal: As a minnow, safely cross the water to the other side

without being eaten by the shark. As a shark, eat all of the minnows before they cross to the other side.

•  Game play begins on the players’ designated game board side (shark on the SHARK side, minnows lined up on the MINNOW side).

•  The player whose birthday is the latest in the year plays first, and play progresses clockwise from that player.

•  Player 1 will choose a card or roll the dice. If he/she answers the math fact correctly, he/she must move the playing piece one space forward in a sideways, forward, or diagonal direction. If the player answers incorrectly, he/she must remain on that space. Play continues.

•  If a minnow lands on a squid safety space, he/she earns an extra turn since the squid has squirted ink into the water, making it hard for the shark to spot that minnow. If a minnow lands on a jellyfish space, he/she is stung and cannot move to another space until the next turn.

•  The first minnow to reach the other side is in 1st place! If the shark reaches the other side before all of the minnows, he/she is the winner. Play can stop once one player reaches the other side, or can continue until all players have crossed the board, resulting in 2nd place, 3rd place, etc.

•  SUGGESTION: I have included a page of blank cards for you to use for additional math facts OR, you can use them for letter identification, sight word recognition, etc.---there are so many possibilities!

Playing Piece Assembly: 1.  Print the pieces onto cardstock. Laminate.

2.  Cut each piece along the outside dark solid line. 3.  Fold along both dotted lines as indicated on the playing pieces.

4.  Attach the top and bottom flap using a piece of clear tape. 5.  Pieces should stand upright as shown:
