Parent Report WESTON, Fla - They may have fallen behind early, but the Dark Blue Sharks showed that they prefer feed- ing when the shadows grow long. Coach Carsten Juern’s team demonstrated on Saturday that it is a force to be reck- oned with this season in the AYSO Under-10 girls’ divi- sion, rallying behind two sec- ond-half goals from Katrina Tong to knock off the Burgundy Eagles, 4-2 in the season opener for both teams. Tong scored the team’s final two goals, sealing the victory with a one-timer off of a three-pass counterattack, while rookie goalkeeper Nicole Martinez and a solid defense dodged a few close calls in the final quarter to preserve the victory. The Sharks had fallen behind, 1-0, but Megna Sharma’s first-ever goal pulled the team even at 1-1. The team took the lead for good in the second quarter and stretched its advantage to 3-1 on Tong’s first goal. The Eagles closed the gap midway through the third period, and almost tied the score early in the fourth, but a point-blank attempt sailed just over the crossbar. Not long after that Tong took a pass on the break, set- tled it just as she was taught by coach Juern and her father, the team’s assistant coach, before striking a beautiful ball that found the back of the net and sent the promising team into a wild celebration.
