A letter from our President, Diana Clayton

Dear Shasta Miners and Prospectors: I have lots of things to write about but

gratefully I only have so much space. It is

a pleasure to congratulate Howard Waldron

recipient of the Mine of The Month Award.

Last month the metal detecting work shop

received rave reviews. Thank you Bill

Doyle for doing a great job.

This month we have the opportunity to hear from a son of a

long time gold miner family in Shasta County, Jeremy Tuttle,

staff member at the Shasta Historical Society. He will give a

very interesting presentation on the history of gold mines and

ghost towns in Shasta County. This should be fun and lively.

I hope everyone can attend.

It saddens me to report that the Anderson River Park has de-

cided they do not want metal detectorist’s working in the

grassy areas of their park. However, it is okay to detect the

back fields and dirt trails...all this because people are not leav-

ing the ground as they found it.

No news about dredging yet.

I hope to see everyone at the

meeting. Please bring a refresh-

ment for the refreshment table as

they are always appreciated.

Should we continue

the hidden coin contest?

July Metal Detector Outing

The night detecting outing of July Fourth held at the Redding Convention Center was attended by approxi-

mately fifteen persons. The exact number and names of all the participants was impossible to ascertain due

to the darkness and the coming and going of those attending. The night hunt is always a challenge; however,

it makes day hunts a piece of cake.

We gained access to the Convention Center grounds about eleven thirty at night and when I left at

two thirty in the morning there were still two hardcore persons swinging their detectors.

Some of the items found included a smart phone, a new Gerber pocket knife, a wedding band set

with stones, flashlights, tent pegs, and quite a bit of coinage.

I’m looking forward to the next outing in August with hopes of finding that really “big find.”

Until next month, good hunting.

Bill

Hello fellow miners, It's been a long time since I wrote my own column. I'm glad to see everyone is still

having fun. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you at the annual picnic. I've been practicing the hammer

throw so watch out! We'll be looking for you at the picnic. Be safe out there Michael Abernathy claims

chairman

Hello Fellow Miners Wow I can’t believe that it is already July!! I will be heading out to the civic center for the night detecting outing will let you know how

everyone did at the meeting that is going to be Wednesday the 16th at the Redding moose lodge on Lake blvd. There are a few upcoming

events that sound like a lot of fun see the dates to remember section to know where and when. For the outing in Weaverville there is an advisory that motorhomes and or trailers are nor advised down on the claim—there is however a campground in nearby Douglas City. They

have bathrooms, showers and such great for motorhomes & trailers. We will be supplying a port pot and the hot dogs, hamburgers and sodas.

The rest is pot luck. Our membership is still on the rise up to 322 members – NOT counting the families. When you are sending in your dues, Please be sure and send in an application it is important that a new one is signed each year. It is greatly appreciated. Hope to see you

at the upcoming meeting.

Happy mining Donna Davis
