JOB DESCRIPTION ART & GRAPHIC DESIGN TEACHER Shawnigan Lake School is looking for an experienced Art & Graphic Design Teacher to join our faculty in September 2018. The successful candidate will be a specialist in art instruction and be able to demonstrate excellence in instructional practice, a passion for young people and a willingness to go the extra mile in promoting the arts inside and outside the classroom. Through our C.A.S.E. program, Shawnigan has recently expanded its digital art infrastructure with state of the art equipment in digital photography, film and computer graphics, and we are looking for an educator that can continue to build upon our students' exposure to the arts through graphic design. This individual should be familiar with the new BC curriculum at the grade 8 and 9 levels, and the proposed curriculum at the grade 10-12 levels. We invite dynamic applicants who enjoy working collaboratively to join our team as we build on new curriculum and prepare our students for the rigour of post-secondary education. Applicants should be passionate about curriculum design, assessment for learning, and the cultivation of life-long exposure to the arts. Being a boarding school, involvement in all other facets of the Shawnigan Experience are fundamental elements of the role. This one year position is 1.0 FTE. • Do duty in a dorm one evening each week, and every sixth Saturday

• Academically mentor a roster of up to seven advisees

• Do one Sunday full-school duty every two years

• Participate in weekend programs and supervise field trips and tours

• Be involved in school activities that occur on evenings or weekends

• Participate in faculty and staff meetings

• Engage in professional development by creating a Professional Growth Plan each year and seeking opportunities

for professional development

• Support fellow faculty with short term coverage of classes to ensure that the delivery of content continues in a

teacher’s absence

• Attend Chapel services and Headmaster’s Gatherings on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays

• Support of various school initiatives and other responsibilities, as assigned

REQUIREMENTS • Only candidates holding certification to teach Art & Graphic Design grade 8-12 within British Columbia by

September 1, 2018 will be considered.

• Candidates must also hold a post-secondary degree in Art and Graphic Design.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• A full understanding and ability to teach the Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects) in

both Mac and PC platforms, and working knowledge of the Wacom Graphic Design tablet.

• Proven record of professionalism, punctuality, flexibility, dependability, and reliability

• Experience working with teenagers, preferably in a boarding environment

• Strong communication skills

• Available for work beginning August 27, 2018

JOB DESCRIPTION MUSIC & RECORDING ARTS TEACHER Shawnigan Lake School is looking for a Music and Recording Arts Teacher to join our faculty in September 2018. Working collaboratively with our current Director of Music, the individual we seek will have experience with teaching music and band to a variety of levels as well as music composition and production. The successful applicant should be comfortable working with large and small group ensembles while supporting and challenging a mix of experienced and inexperienced musicians. A willingness to have involvement in all aspects of the school, and initiate opportunities for students to share their talents with the community is an integral part of this position. Shawnigan operates an industry standard recording studio as part of its music program. The successful applicant must have experience with recording and digital mastering. This one year position is 1.0 FTE.

SPECIFIC ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Set up and take down audio/PA equipment for sporting events, indoor and outdoor assemblies, including

weekends, evenings and for summertime groups. Provide technical assistance to these groups if needed

• Sound technician for outdoor assemblies, sporting events, and other school gatherings

• Manage and maintain audio equipment

• Provide playlists for sporting events and dances or organize/facilitate students to provide this

• Individual guitar lessons and group guitar lessons

• Song writing and composition/production

• Rock band classes

• Meet with students privately (tutorials) to work on songs and recordings

• Be available evenings and weekends to work with students and provide opportunities for informal individual

and group practice or recordings

• Support other academic classes that are looking to integrate music cross-curricularly

• Run multiple extra-curricular fine arts after school 3-4 days a week

• Instruct students formally and informally on how to use the recording studio

• Provide instrumentation and/or vocals for student recordings that are not curricular or extra-curricular

• Be available to perform in chapel and at other special events wherever needed

• Coach vocal and instrumental performances

• Troubleshooting studio technical issues – be on call for studio problems

• Compose, write, transcribe and transpose arrangements for groups with sparse or unusual instrumentation or

songs where off-the-shelf arrangements are not suitable for grade/experience level

• 4 evenings/week in music studio with students

• Multi-grade instrumental instruction with all levels of musical experience in multiple genres

• Expertise with ordering musical equipment and managing a budget and billing

• Cultivate relationships with local musicians/professionals for artist-in-residence programs

• Facilitating weekend rehearsals for active bands

• Help different groups (grades, houses, courses, etc..) with musical presentations for school events

• Prepare students to perform weekly in chapel

• Experience setting up studio sessions including the use of all kinds of mics (ribbon, condenser, large diaphragm,

dynamic) and amps/speakers

REQUIREMENTS • Current BC teacher certification or the ability to gain certification by September 1, 2018

• Proven record of professionalism, punctuality, flexibility, dependability, and reliability

• Experience working with teenagers, preferably in a boarding environment

• Strong communication skills

• Available for work beginning August 27, 2018

• An ability to use, teach and troubleshoot Avid, ProTools, S6, Focusrite, LogicPro, Sibelius, Native Instruments,

Waves and FL Studio

• Experience teaching band and leading small and large ensemble who are working at various levels

• Classical, rock, jazz, pop and stage band experience

• Composition, recording and digital mastering experience

• A proven track-record of being able to develop good rapport with students and grow a music program

• The nature of this role requires availability on evenings and weekends when school events occurs

JOB DESCRIPTION DANCE TEACHER Shawnigan Lake School is seeking a Dance Specialist to join our faculty in September 2018. Working collaboratively with all members of the Fine Art department, the individual we seek will have experience with teaching dance in a variety of areas to a variety of levels of dancers. Fostering our growing program to complement our performing arts offerings will be a key aspect of this role. The successful applicant will have experience instructing students in the history of dance of various cultures and societies, basic anatomy as it relates to movement as well as the importance of nutrition. This one year position is 0.6 FTE.
