Description of place: type of ground / surface area / vegetation / aspect
The tree-lined footpath from Murol Castle is pleasant
because of its view of the château.
There is a traditional bridge to cross and the mill
immediately emerges.
Moulin de Landrode is made of local stone and has
a “lauze” stone slab roof; it is surrounded by trees.
There is a rest area next to it.
The footpath at this spot is wide. It forms a platform
of about 30m2 facing the mill below.
The landscape is enclosed, there is just one side
where trees are sparser that reveals Murol Castle on
its promontory.
The ground is grassy and a few ferns form sparse
tufts.
The site is north facing and the sun slips through the
trees in the afternoon.
Best points: The place is pleasant and a change compared with the
other sites chosen in the heart of the Sancy Massif. The
much-visited Murol Castle is right close by.
This landscape is closed in on itself and people are
surprised by such a traditional and typical place. A visit
to this site is a perfect complement to a tour of the
chateau.
Note: The mill has recently been restored by an association
called “les Amis du Bessoles”
