    THE RECTOR'S LETTER Dear Parishioners,

I acknowledge with many thanks donations to the Magazine Fund from Mr. and Mrs. Creber, Ford, Bean and Barr. To · all those who have sup-ported the Magazine I am most grateful ; to those who have not given anything, either at all or recently, J appeal for their support. There is a box in the Post Office into which you can place your contribu-tion, and you can buy envelopes at the Post Office to put your donations in .Whether or no the Magazine continues must and does depend on how much money comes in. It does contain a good deal of information about parish activities and what is going on.

The Young Wives are starting their meetings again on alternate Wednesdays in the afternoon.

The Brownie Pack is up to full strength-possibly more than full - and is providing a much needed organisation in the parish . Like most organ-isations, money is needed. The Pack started without any money, so to provide some funds Mrs.S.Pearman is holding a whist drive in the Village Hall on Friday, October 27th . Please support this effort to provide something for the youngsters. If you don't play whist, will you give a prize ? If you don't want to give a prize, please give a donation to Brownie Pack Funds. Two shillings and half-crowns soon add up to a tidy sum. Please give to Mrs. Pearman, Trenance, Northfield Road, and her Brownies your support.

    Yours, JOHN C. BRASHA W,

    Rector.

    CHURCH REPAIR FUND

Voiuntary labour has done much in clearing away ru'bbish behind the church, and in preparatory digging for drains to take away rain water from the foundations.

Yards of sixpences continue to be completed, and the flower and vegetable stall on Saturday mornings does very well. To all who give, our deepest thanks are given. We must raise £500 before December 31 st in order to qualify fo.r the very gen· erous gift of £500 from a parishioner. This would make £1,000, not quite half the sum needed for urgent and immediate repairs.

    SHERFIELD VILLAGE HALL

This is to give notice that the Annual General Meeting of Parishioners will be held in the Village Hall on Saturday, November 5th, 1961, at 7 p.m.

Business: J. Minutes of the Annual General Meeting held

on Saturday, October 29th, 1960. 2. Matters arising from the minutes. 3. Presentation of the annual accounts by the

Hon . Treasurer, Mr. Philip Sims. 4. Review of the work of the committee during

their term of office. 5. Election of four parishioners to serve on the

committee till the next annual general meeting.

    6. Any other business.

    JOHN C. BRASHAW, Chairman.

Anyone of either sex who is over 21 years of age a nd has been resident in the parish for three years is eligible to serve on the committee. If any parish-ioner wou ld like his or her name proposed, and is unable to be present, would he or she please send a note, in writing, to the chairman, that, if elected, he or she would be willing to serve.

The Trustees of the Village Hall, who are ex-officio members of the committee, are Messrs. A. P. Barker, J. D . Barker, F . H. Jackson and Philip Sims.

    SHERFIELD MEN'S SOCIETY

The second annual general meeting of the Sher-field Men 's Society was held on Wednesday, 6th September, according to the rules of the Society. Only four members, however, presented themselves. Tn view of this general disinterest in the organisation by the village and the apathy they showed last season, it has been decided to disband the Society and offer the funds and other holdings to the Youth Club.

If there are any objections to this proposal, it is suggested that the Chairman, Mr. H . E. Sefton, be approached within 15 days of the pUblication of this notice when , if necessary, a meeting of members will be convened.

    WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

In the absence of Mrs. Dodd and Mrs. Willis, Miss Butler kindly undertook to be president of the meeting of the W.L on 7th September.

The usual business was discussed and many suggestions for the sale of work in November were made and approved. This is, of course, 'Open', and part of the funds will go to the Cancer Research Campaign.

There are a large number of meetings and other activities in the county to attend, and the Drama Group is again busy with a play. Mrs. Willis had a coffee morning at her house. The competition, of autumn berries and leaves, was won by Mrs. Bulpit and Mrs. Agnew. Sale of goods at the stall and a competition did a brisk trade, followed by a welcome tea to end a pleasant aftenioon.

Miss Roward Jones spoke on the work of an Almoner in the hospitals, and was thanked by Mrs. BUlpit on behalf of the members.

    YOUNG WIVES' GROUP

The Young Wives' Group meets on Wednesday, October 4th, to start the autumn term. Six meetings in all have been arranged throughout the term, and we would like to welcome any new members who would like to join us. Some very interesting speakers ha ve agreed to come to us.

A whist drive has also been arranged for Friday, October 13th, at 7.30 p.m. in tbe Village Hall for the Group.

    THE BROWNIES

Pack meetings are away with a swing, with all our Brownies looking very smart in uniform. Our last tweeny has been enrolled , a ceremony which the Rector was pleased to see. There is a Church Parad ~ on October 1st, all Brownies to meet at the Village Hall , conveyance to and from church being arranged.

Owing to tbe shortage of funds, we are holding a whist drive on Friday, October 27th, which we hope will be supported. If anyone would like to contribute a prize for the above, we shall gladly accept it.

    Brown Owl.

    SHERFIELD YOUTH CLUB

On Saturday, August 26th, Sherfield Youth Club held a jumble sale and social in aid of funds for the new Youtb Club Hall. A large number of people from and around the village came for the bargains, which included furniture.

On the day, after all expenses, over £50 was raised, and a large vote of thanks was given in the evening to Mrs. Dodd and her helpers for their wonderful effort.
