Sheridan County Public
Library System Newsletter
October 20th through the 26th
is National Friends of the Library
week! While our friends work hard
year round, we would like to take
this time to celebrate the Friends of
the Library who strengthen our
library and our community. This
organization, powered by volunteers,
helps fundraise throughout the year
to help fill the gaps where traditional
sources of funding fall short. This
year, with assistance from our
amazing community, the FOL raised
an impressive sum of $40,000 for our
library. The FOL organize and
sponsor a variety of events such as
Books and Brews and the annual Fall
Auction. Unfortunately, due to
COVID concerns, the FOL have made
the difficult decision to forgo the Fall
Auction this year.
Thankfully, our innovative
friends have come up with a fun
alternative. This October, the Friends
of the Sheridan County Library will
be hosting their first annual
Storybook Virtual Run! This
fundraising event allows you to dress
up as your favorite book character
and run, walk, jog, stroller, or crawl
any time and distance you choose.
The race will take place between the
24th and the 31st. You can register
online, print your own bib, and have
a t-shirt, sticker, and bookmark
mailed to you before the race.
Children 12 and under are FREE! For
more information visit:

County Library on Facebook!

September is National Library Card Sign Up Month
Help us celebrate all of the places a library card can take you! Did
you know that your library card allows you to check out up to 40 books at a
time? As kids head back to school it’s important that they are aware of all of
the resources at their disposal. A library card not only grants students access
to our extensive catalog of over 100,000 books, but also our online
magazines, journals, and all of the statewide databases.
If you or your child don’t already have a library card, take this
opportunity to stop in and sign up for one! For the entire month of
September anyone who signs up for a library card will be entered to win our
Sheridan Fulmer Library Starter Bundle full of SCPLS swag to get you
started as a library lover for life! To sign up for a library card, children ages 15
and younger need a parent or adult with a library card or a valid photo ID to
sign the application. Persons ages 16 and older may apply for a card with a
valid photo ID. Persons ages 18 and older just need a valid ID and a
permanent local address to get started. We’re looking forward to seeing you!
Shredfest
We will hold our annual Shred Fest from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
in the Fulmer Library parking lot on Wednesday,
September 23. A shredding truck from Secure Shred will
be on hand to securely dispose of documents and records
that contain sensitive information. Residents can drop
off up to two banker boxes of papers to be shredded for
free. Additional boxes will be accepted for a $10 per box
charge. Please remove plastic, wire or plastic binders,
3-ring notebooks, food or food wrappers, spring clips,
cardboard, newspapers, magazines, glossy paper, black
binder clips or spiral bindings from items brought for
shredding. However, staples and paper clips are
acceptable to leave on. This service is for personal
shredding only, no businesses please.
Take and Make Craft Kits
Every week this September and October we will
feature a new craft kit that patrons can take
home and make at their leisure! Kits include
instructions and all of the necessary supplies,
with the exception of glue/glue sticks, scissors,
markers, crayons, or tape if needed. These kits
might contain small or sharp pieces and are
intended for teens and adults, so we suggest that
children under the age of 12 have adult
supervision if they decide to take home one of our
projects. New kits will be located by the entry
doors on Monday mornings. Supplies are limited,
so we ask that patrons limit themselves to one kit
per person. Make sure you grab your kit early,
when they’re gone they’re gone!
YA/Adult Summer Reading Winners
Congratulations to our YA/Adult Summer
Reading Program challenge winners: Margaret
Magee, Barb Perry, and Cindy Ketron. Each

books throughout the program! Thank you to
everyone who participated, we’re already looking
forward to next year!
