Caux Campus
Located in the historic Caux Palace, SHMS Caux welcomes all rst
and second year students. Set in the hills overlooking Lake Geneva,
it is a short train ride from the lively city of Montreux with its shops,
restaurants and cosmopolitan lifestyle.
As a historic building the Caux Palace offers a unique environment in
which to study,steeped in the heritage of Swiss hospitality traditions.
Regularly renovated,the campus offers modern facilities and a learning

Leysin Campus
SHMS Leysin is housed in two former hotels, the Mont-Blanc Palace
and the Belvdre, linked by the SHMS Skytrain. All students who
continue to Higher Diploma and Bachelor level as well as PGD and
Master students will experience the magnicent surroundings that
have earned Leysin a reputation as an international study location.
As a well-known mountain resort,Leysin offers students a wide range
of recreational and sporting activities in a setting surrounded by
stunning alpine scenery.

Programme Structure
Students enrolled in the undergraduate programme complete two
5-month academic semesters and two periods of internship during
their rst two years of study. The nal year of the BA programme
consists of two academic semesters. The combination of academic
study and industry placement in the programme allows students to
learn both theoretical and practical aspects of hospitality management.
Programme Intensity
The intensive nature of the programmes at SHMS allows students to
graduate with their Bachelor Degree in 3 years, with one additional
year for a Master Degree. The programme length corresponds to
international standards and has the advantage of ensuring students an
accelerated start to their career.
3 Pillar Strategy
At Bachelor level, courses follow a 3 Pillar Strategy focusing on global
trends, business strategy and operational leadership.
Ofcial Language
English is the ofcial language of instruction at SHMS.
English Foundation Programme
SHMS is member of the Swiss Education Group, which offers an
English Foundation Programme to all students whose English skills are
below the required entry level for their chosen hospitality programme.

Language Study
The ability to speak several languages is an important skill in the
hospitality industry. SHMS offers the choice of French, German or
Spanish classes.
Faculty
SHMS lecturers come from both academic and industry backgrounds
and are passionate advocates of hospitality education.
Class Size
SHMS boasts an excellent student to teacher ratio with an average
class size of 25 students.
Study Advisor
Students who are experiencing difculty in any subject are able torequest the assistance of a study advisor. Where possible this will be a

MIB, Master of International Business in Hotel,
Resort and Spa Management
With its blend of experiential learning, management theory and
strategy, the MIB is a challenging and exciting opportunity for the
leaders of tomorrow.
Specialist modules in resort and spa management provide students
with key industry knowledge. The modules of Resort F&B Operations
Management and Spa Operations Management, include hands-on
shadowing in areas of operations management within SHMS, ensuring
students acquire the skills and competencies that will enhance their
degree of employability.
Theory modules provide students with detailed insight into industrytrends as well as public relations, e-commerce and cross-cultural

The postgraduate diploma programmes at SHMS offer fantastic
opportunities to graduates seeking a change in their career, or forthose who are currently working in the industr y and require further
training to enhance their career opportunities. The PGD programmes
offer an intensive introduction to key sectors of the service industry
and combine academic study with practical experience, making them
ideal training for career success.
Progression Options
Graduates who complete the PGD programme and an internship will
be eligible to progress to the MIB, Master of International Business in
Hotel, Resort and Spa Management.

The internship experience is an integral part of the academic
programme at SHMS, offering students an opportunity to gain realindustry experience and to practice the skills they have learned during
their academic studies.
Internship offers graduating students a distinct advantage as they enter
the world of employment with signicant industry experience.
Internship Ofce
The SHMS Internship Ofce assists students in nding employment
in the hospitality industry in Switzerland or abroad. The internship
coordinators are always available for assistance or advice during the
internship placement.
Internship in SwitzerlandStudents who complete their internship in Switzerland are paid a
salary at current industry trainee rates, between 2168.- CHF and
2450.- CHF per month. As students live off campus during this time
they will need to allow approximately 1000.- CHF per month for their
accommodation, meals, insurance and other expenses.

Internship opportunities exist in many different countries for SHMS
students with varying pay and conditions.

Accommodation
Students at SHMS are offered a choice of accommodation options
in both double and single conguration. Included in a students fees isaccommodation in a double-standard room; A supplementary fee is
payable for all other room categories which are distributed on a rst
come, rst served basis and can only be conrmed on reception of
full student fees.
Linen and towels are provided for students and rooms are cleaned
once per week by the housekeeping team.

Leisure Activities and Facilities
Both campuses benet from their own bar and nightclub, the Grotto inCaux and Club Maxx in Leysin. Other leisure activities that take place
during the semester include;

Students in Leysin have exclusive access to the spa, steam-room and
sauna which are open daily. Special prices are offered to students on

Club Maxx
Students at SHMS Leysin become members of Club Maxx and receive
250 credit points which can be put towards an excursion or to join
one of the following clubs;

of sport and leisure activities excursions, professional visits, banquets
and cultural events.
Highlights on the term calendar include the Spring and Christmas Balls,

Each semester SHMS students are given the opportunity to meet
with industry leaders from around the world at the SEG InternationalRecruitment Forum. The event takes place in March and October and
welcomes large hotel groups, boutique hotels, resorts, airlines, cruise
lines and many other industr y groups.
The IRF provides important networking opportunities as well as the
possibility for students to be interviewed for graduate and internshipjobs. A series of seminars by industry representatives inspires and
informs students about the many roles and career paths that exist in
the hospitality industry.
