Dear Parents, As another long term draws to a close I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the staff, teaching and non-teaching, for all their hard work. It has been a busy time in terms of recruitment and I will bring you up to date with our current appointments in this letter. After two very busy years as the Head of Primary School, Mr Ross Armitage has decided to leave us to take up a new position as the Head of School, at an international school in Hong Kong. I would like to thank Mr Ross for his dedication, hard work and passion in raising standards at Tenby Schools, SEP and we wish him well in his next international adventure. Miss Nicola Brown has now been appointed to succeed Mr Ross as the Head of International Primary School. Nicola brings with her a wealth of experience from the UK and Dubai and many parents will already know Nicola as the Deputy Head of EY’s and KS1. Interviews for a new deputy head, to replace Nicola, are already taking place and I will inform you in due course when a decision on that appointment has been made. Recruitment for TIS & SST is still taking place. Appointments that have already been made are; I will endeavour to keep you up to date with our new appointments as soon as they have signed their con- tracts. Please be aware we do not have many positions to fill this year so the list will not be extensive. TIS parents will see an increase in fees for the 2017 -2018 academic year. The school has seen an in- crease in prices from the vast majority of our service providers and suppliers. We are consistently checking the prices we pay for these services against competitors to ensure we receive value for money for all our purchases. I am also having to compete with rising salaries from our competitors and ensuring the offers we make will keep our existing outstanding staff and attract quality new staff. Thank you for your under- standing on this matter. Education Corner Teaching strategies There are a wide variety of teaching strategies that are available to teachers. Inquiry-Based Instruction Inquiry-based learning implies involving students in the learning process so they will have a deeper understanding of what they are learning. We are born with the instinct to inquire -- as babies we use our senses to make connections to our surroundings. Inquiry-based learning strategies are used to engage students to learn by asking questions, investigating, exploring, and reporting what they see. This process leads students to a deeper understanding of the content that they are learning, which helps them be able to apply these concepts they are learning in new situations. In order for our students to be able to be successful in the 21stcentury, they need to be able to answer complex questions and develop solutions for these problems. The Inquiry-based learning strategy is a great tool to do just that. Differentiated Teaching Differentiated teaching strategies allow teachers to engage each student by accommodating to their specific learning style. Every person has a different mind, and therefore each person learns and understands information differently. Differentiating instruction offers a way to meet all students’ needs. One helpful strategy to differentiate instruction is learning stations. Learning stations can easily be designed to enable students with diverse learning needs. Teachers can set up each station where students will be able to complete the same task, but at the level and style that is specifically designed for them. Utilizing Technology in the Classroom Integrating technology into the classroom is a great way to empower students to stay connected in this technological era. Technology-rich lessons have been found to keep students motivated and engaged longer. Some examples of utilizing technology in the classroom is to create web-based lessons or a Webquest, multimedia presentations such as a video, animation, or some type of graphic, utilizing a tablet or an iPad, taking your class on a virtual field trip, participating in an online research project, or even creating a class website. Any of these technology integration strategies will have a positive impact on student learning. Please feel free to research other teaching strategies that are available to teachers. Why not ask your child about the learning they have experienced this week and try to identify some of the strategies used by the teachers. May I wish everyone a very peaceful and enjoyable break and I will welcome you back on Monday 17th April 2017 for the start of the next term.

Best regards,

Ian Temple Campus Principal Tenby Schools, SEP

End of Term Assembly

We held our end of term assembly which is always a celebration of all that we have achieved. It

was a pleasure to present so many certificates for DEAR and Nadi Ilmu Reading Awards and

Exemplary Merit Awards to name but a few! We also presented certificates to an overwhelming

number of students who have 100% attendance this term which is a huge achievement!

ShoeBox Charity Drive in SST

Congratulation to all SST families who had contributed their time and energy for this charity

event! We managed to collect 1565 Shoeboxes in total with the highest contribution of 143

shoeboxes from Abhilashini & Avinishaam from Dragon house.

Primary Chinese Language Week

“Let’s Sing, Children!” is the theme for this year’s Chinese Language Week activity. The activity

has enabled students to engage in learning the language by singing Chinese songs during

Chinese Language classes. It was fun and enjoyable to see students being creative with their

movements while singing. Congratulations to all the winners.
