Quilt Information
Quilt Pick-Up
Purchased quilt items may be picked up at the cashier’s desk.
Comforters Usually made from heavy weight materials and put together by
knotting or large stitches.
Quilt Storage
Quilts should not be stored in plastic, as the plastic does not allow
them to breathe and they will yellow. Instead, use an old pillowcase
or sheet.
Speed Quilting Speed quilting differs from regular quilting in that small “x” stitches
are made at the corners of each piece. This method is most commonly
used when a quilt top is entirely pieced, not where large pieces of
fabric have been left blank for quilting a design.
Quilt Top Descriptions Appliquéd: Pieces of fabric are sewn onto the background fabric to
form a design.
Embroidered: Quilt top’s design is formed by embroidery. Pieced Patchwork: Pieces of cut cloth are sewn together to form a design. Whole Cloth: The quilting forms the design on a piece of fabric,
usually a solid color.
Pre-Printed Fabric: A printed design on the background fabric, giving the
appearance of being pieced or appliquéd. The printing is
done at the fabric mill.
Pre-Quilted Fabric: Machine quilted at the mill.

About Mennonite Central Committee
How MCC Got Started MCC held its first official meeting on September 27, 1920. On July 27th of
that year thirteen church leaders met in Elkhart, Indiana to talk about how
North American Mennonites could respond to the needs of hungry people in
the former Soviet Union. MCC’s name is a reflection of the different church
groups coming together into one “central” committee.
MCC’s Programs MCC is involved in development work such as education, health and
agriculture, peace and justice issues, relief work and job creation, among
other things. MCC raises funds through relief sales like this one, a network of
thrift shops (The Arthur MCC Thrift Shop opened in 2014), and programs
such as My Coins Count where spare change collected by churches, children
and families adds up to make a real difference around the world.
MCC’s Mission Statement
MCC seeks to demonstrate God’s love by working among people suffering
from poverty, conflict, oppression and natural disaster.
MCC serves as a channel for interchange by building relationships that are
mutually transformative.
MCC strives for peace, justice and dignity of all people by sharing our
experiences, resources and faith in Jesus Christ.
What the MCC Symbol Means
the cross of Christ: motivation
the dove of peace: action
the circle: global service
