Hello! I am a Native St. Simons Artist offering: acrylic-on-reclaimed-wood paintings digital prints hand-painted reclaimed tiles-gift cards and more!

Everything I sell is either made from reclaimed* or recycled materials. I also pack/ship using all recycled materials; which means at times I construct boxes myself. They work well, save trees and gift the postal workers many smiles.

I sell online, but am HAPPY to skip shipping and meet You any-where on St. Simons to do our transaction in person.

Thank You and Namaste!

Merry Christmas–Happy Chanukah–Cheers!

In 1878, poet and native Geor-gian Sidney Lanier, who sought relief from tuberculosis in Brunswick’s climate, wrote The Marshes of Glynn, a poem based on the salt marshes that span across Glynn County. The December 1888 issue of Harper's Weekly predicted that

"Brunswick by the Sea" was destined to become the "winter Newport of America." Jekyll Island had become a resort desti-nation for some of the era's most influential families (most nota-bly Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, Pulitzers and Goodyears) who arrived by train or yacht.

One of the largest plantations in the South

was the Butler Island Plantation, located just

south of Darien, across the Darien River on

what is now US Highway 17. The story of

the plantation is a fascinating one, begin-

ning in the 1790s, when Major Pierce Butler

planted the land on the Altamaha Delta,

which provided perfect conditions for grow-

ing rice. In the year 1838 the major's grand-

son, Captain Pierce Butler, who was married

to the famous and beautiful British stage ac-

tress Fanny Kemble, arrived at the planta-

tion for a six-month working visit. Kemble, who was not familiar with the reality of slavery, immedi-

ately became very opposed to the treatment of the slaves. She penned her feelings and eventually

published the notes in a book called Journal of a Resident on a Georgia Plantation, which some

say helped persuade the British to oppose slavery and the Civil War. The plantation site is now

owned by The Nature Conservancy and the land (excluding the house) is open to the public for pic-

nicking, fishing and birding. Sunsets can be dramatic, as the setting sun creates reflections of bril-

liant color in the Butler River.

The Brunswick Parks and Recrea-tion Department op-erates city parks and squares. Six original squares still exist in the city, although all but one, Hanover, have been bisected by a city street.

There are also two additional squares located within the city, Orange and Palmetto. Numerous parks exist in the city, the largest being Howard Coffin Park. The parks in-clude features such as playgrounds, baseball fields, soft-ball fields, soccer fields, basketball courts, and picnic are-as. Coffin Park includes a walking track. The district also owns the Roosevelt Lawrence Community Center, a cen-ter equipped with popular and traditional recreational game tables, two classrooms, and a multi-purpose gym-nasium.

This calendar, running from July 2012 to De-cember 2013, features buildings and other historic lo-cations as they looked in years past and today while providing an historic narration on each location. nity preservation education.

The “Historic Brunswick-Past and Present” calendar is available at the following downtown Brunswick merchants: Color Me Happy, DDA Office in Old City

Hall, Hattie’s Books, Ritz Theatre and True Vine Wine and Gourmet.

City Market, Inc. represents a rich tradition of family involvement and success in the wholesale and retail seafood busi-ness. We select only the finest and most succulent shrimp in the sea. In fact, City Market is the seafood supplier of choice for many of Georgia's finest restaurants. Our reputation and our fresh shrimp have been the foundation for our long-standing success.

Brunswick's Old City Hall has developed a split personality. This part-time city courthouse doubles as Brunswick's new venue of choice for everything from

class reunions to wedding receptions.

Built at a cost of $33,000, Old City Hall was fully restored with special purpose local option sales tax dollars and reopened in 2004. Its gleaming heart-pine and marble floors, original vintage fireplaces and newly refitted gaslight fixtures lend

an air of old fashioned elegance to any gathering. Construction on Old City Hall began in 1886 from an architectural design by Al-fred Eichberg, and was completed in 1889, with the installation of the clock/bell tower in 1893. The architectural style is "Richardsonian Romanesque", with Queen Anne parallels.

Massive in stature, with the unusual addition of Italianate brackets, Romanesque architecture was the

style of choice for the majority of public buildings built in the United States during this period. Elaborate terra cotta friezes decorate our Old City Hall clock tower and side entries, while the corner columns adorned with gargoyles gaze welcomingly at you and your guests.

The only facility of its kind open to the general public in Brunswick, Old City Hall offers a wonderful historic structure with elegant ap-

pointments at a modest price.

Located in the "Old Town" section of Bruns-

wick Georgia (midway between Savannah and Jacksonville), WatersHill Bed & Break-fast offers an intimate retreat with comforta-bly elegant accommodations and modern conveniences. You'll enjoy touring the histor-ic city of Brunswick. It's streets and squares, laid out before the revolution, were named for members of English royalty and nobility. Such names as Albemarle, Gloucester, Nor-wich and Newcastle give Old Town Bruns-

wick a decidedly English flavor. Even our own Union Street is named to commemorate the union of Scotland and England, not what you're thinking! Lover's Oak, the beautiful Glynn County Court House, Lanier Oak, shrimp boats and many antique shops are all close by.

Pyramids in Cairo, Temples in Athens, a Shroud in Turin, a Library in Ephesus, and, yes, even the

Barber of Seville–they’re all in Georgia if you know where to look. Take a trip around the world

without leaving the Peach State in this unusual tour that is sometimes historic, sometimes informa-

tive, sometimes melancholy, sometimes satirical, sometimes absurd and almost always humorous.

Based on Homer’s Odyssey, if but barely, this is an entertaining yet educational study of the Em-

pire State of the South as we follow Odyfferus around from hamlet to hamlet (not a Shakespeare

reference).

Erudite architectural photographer, Harlan Hambright, views the world from a unique perspective

making connections that have never been observed before (perhaps because they do not exist,

but that’s another matter altogether).

The book has been featured in Georgia Backroads magazine twice, Golden Isles Magazine, and

Fox News online. The author used the theme of the book to develop recipes which garnered 1st

and 2nd place awards in the last two Shrimp & Grits Festivals on Jekyll Island.

Who is Pilliard Dickle?

"A very clever fellow." —Steve Allen

"A born storyteller..." —Gene Shalit

Pilliard Dickle is the pen name of Joe Chandler, an artist/writer living on an island off the coast of Georgia. He calls himself a "mutli-media im-ganationist." His creative outpourings include a repertoire of whimsical songs, several books and other projects too out-of-the-envelope to cate-gorize.

He's best known as the creator of the land of Calendaria. His calendars have won both the National and World Calendar Awards and have been published as a coffee table book.

And of course he has a dog. Every bio includes a dog.
