Judges Profiles

DANIEL COUNASSE – WCF BELGIUM- First judge exam in 1980- All breed judge since 1988- Active in clubs as president, Secretary, treasurer or responsible for pedigree during about

35 years- Actually member of the Judges and Standards Commission in WCF- Breeder of Abyssinians during 20 years and Singapuras (I was the first to introduce

Singapura in Europe) during 15 years (with common years)- I stopped breeding for different reasons, mainly professional- After a break of some years in breeding, I have now 2 Canadian sphinxes for fun.

I can’t live without cats home.- I am lucky to be invited and to have the possibility to judge in different associations : WCF, CFA, LOOF

(France), GCCF and Independent Clubs. And now, I will have the opportunity to realize one of my dreams : coming in New-Zealand and Australia and all that in relation with my hobby.

- “Real” Job : chief of own firm managing with the control of buildings security

GEOFF BECKETT – CCCA AustraliaGreetings exhibitors perhaps it is time to provide an updated resume. I guess 2018 is a landmark for me with 50 years membership of the FCCVictoria, joining in 1968. I have held a judging licence since 1974 and have been an All Breeds Judge since 1992. I have made many friendships in this time in the cat fancy but alas, many of those friends are no longer with us. Still it was great to have had those friendships in the course of my life. An interest in exhibition animals and in particular Siamese, British, Persians and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels has been an obsession for most of my life and I am most grateful for the joy these interests have brought me. The exhibits that I have had the opportunity to observe, handle and assess, have been a life long learning experience.

I hope I have been able to enthuse and educate others towards the appreciation of so many intriguing breeds. I have always approached this task with diligence and I hope some grace. Thank you exhibitors for those many opportunities. Judging has taken me to all states of Australia, many of the nations Royal Shows, even more prestigious Club’s shows and many shows in NZ. Once upon a time I was on the management team and show manager for great shows with the Shorthair Cat Club and past Chair of the Judges Association. My association with this hobby has been embraced with enthusiasm. I hope I can continue but unfortunately the interest and thus Show numbers seem to be dwindling. Symptomatic of an increasingly busy and frenetic world.

LESLEY FREEMANN – GCCFV AustraliaI was born in New Zealand and immigrated to Australia in 1968, where I completed my university education. I currently hold Certificate IV in Training & Assessment and Certificate IV in Disability Studies (as well as Level II First Aid).My recreational interests for the past have been mainly dominated by the breeding and showing of pedigree cats. Initially I started with Siamese and added a few Burmese along the way (prefix Tokiwi). However, the hobby really developed into an obsession when I encountered Colin and Di McKenzie and their beautiful Birmans, (prefix Khadine). I commenced breeding Birmans under the Eldorato prefix with my first litter being born 10 days after my last baby. The gene pool was very small within Australia at the time, and

importation was difficult and expensive. Fortunately, breeders were very generous with sharing their lines and the breed has now built up to where it is today. I am very proud to have been part of this evolution and count myself very fortunate in the friends that I have made along the way.I undertook my Group 1 (all longhair) Judges licence in 1998 and completed my Group 3 (all shorthair except Siamese), in 2002. I became an All Breeds Judge in January 2006, after passing Group 2. I have judged in New Zealand, Kuala Lumpur, Portland, Oregon, Brasil, Johannesburg & Cape Town (South Africa). In addition, I am still actively breeding and showing Birmans. Initially I started with seal and blue breeding only, but then added in the chocolate gene. Eldorato has been GCCFV Group 1 Breeder of the Year for many years. My husband, Kevin, shares this interest with me and we are very fortunate to have achieved a great deal of success in the last decade, winning 4 Cat of the Year awards, 1 kitten of the Year, and Breeder of the Year many times. I am currently President of The Birman, Ragdoll & Associated Breeds Club Society Inc and Secretary of the GCCFV Judges’ Association. In addition to our cat breeding and showing, my life is shared with 3 children and 4 grandchildren. I also enjoy reading, travel, watching sport, (rugby is my passion).

DIANE HOLTOM – NZCFFrom a young age I have had a passion for animals of all shapes and sizes. As a young adult I bred and showed German Shepherds until the children came along and dominated my time with things like BMX and other sports. I am now a mother of 4 children and grandmother of 7. I purchased my first Birman in 2003 and started breeding under my prefix “Belzicatz”. I live in New Plymouth with my husband Geoff and my lovely fur babies. Since I started breeding I have also been very involved in the "Cat World" and have been the Treasurer of Taranaki Cat Club and also The Sacred Temple Cat Club for many years now, and have also been show secretary/manager for many shows. I have also served for a period of time on the NZ Cat Fancy Executive Council.

This led me to start my judging career in 2010 and I am now a Senior All Breeds Judge for NZ Cat Fancy. I have judged for many clubs in New Zealand and also in Australia.

NICK TRICARICO – GCCFV AustraliaI am an All Breeds judge with the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (Aust. & Vic) Inc. (GCCFV) which is currently affiliated with the Australian Cat Federation (Inc.). I completed Group 2 in 1999 and Group 3 in 2002, followed by Group 1 in 2008. My breed interest is the British Shorthair and with my wife, Cathy, we have been exhibiting and breeding this breed since 1994 under the prefix of Bevington. We specialise in the colours of Orange–Eyed White, Black and Blue. We have bred a number of best in show and cat of the year winners and were GCCFV Group 3 Breeder of the Year winners in 2009. I have undertaken numerous local and interstate assignments as well as New Zealand. I have judged at the Co–ordinating Cat Council of Australia (CCCA). National Shows in Brisbane in 2004 and in Melbourne in 2007, the World Cat Congress Show in

Melbourne in 2010, as well as the New Zealand National Show in 2008. I have been very privileged to judge at these various shows.Outside of the cat fancy, I am a qualified social worker, and I have been married to Cathy for over 38 years, have a son, Adam, and a beautiful granddaughter, Emily, now aged 6 years.

KERRY FOWLER – GCCFV AustraliaGood day, I am a fully qualified All Breeds Judge with GCCFV and ACF, commencing with my Group 3 license in 1995, followed by my Group 1 and 2 licenses in 2004 and January 2013, respectively. I have been fortunate to have judged in all eight major States and Territories of Australia, as well as North and South Islands of New Zealand. In 2014, I was honoured with judging All Breeds at the prestigious Sydney Royal Show as well as at the iconic Royal Melbourne Shows in 2014, 2015 and 2017. It was my pleasure to judge Shorthair cats at the esteemed ACF National Show in 2017.My introduction to the cat fancy was through successfully owning; breeding and exhibiting silver spotted British Shorthairs under the Cornfield prefix for over ten years. Our British were well known winning multiple Supreme and Cat of the Year awards.

My other achievements include:- Book author of ‘Meow A genetic concert for cats’ describing feline inheritance genetics, DNA testing,

genetic counselling for cat breeders and cat judging- Author and co-author of over 50 peer reviewed scientific publications - Foundation Trustee of Feline Health Research Fund: http://fhrf.org.au, 2000-2015; during this time 14

grants were awarded - Invited Speaker in the fields of feline appearance, genetics, DNA testing, cat judging and the role of the

judge- Scientist who unexpectantly co-discovered the genes responsible for two different wavy-coated mouse

mutants while working in cancer researchTutor Judge for All Shorthair cats
