Community UpdateNOVEMBER 2013
Showground Road widening – between Carrington Road and Old Northern Road, Castle Hill
Roads and Maritime has started the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for the proposal to widen Showground Road at Castle Hill from a two lane to four lane divided road. The REF is scheduled to be displayed for community and stakeholder comment in the first half of 2014. Following REF approval, the proposed road widening and upgrade work is expected to start in 2015.
A Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) for the Showground Road widening was formally executed in September 2013 by Roads and Maritime Services, The Hills Shire Council and the developer of Castle Towers Shopping Centre, Queensland Investment Corporation.
Roads and Maritime is also working closely with the Transport for NSW North West Rail Link project team to ensure both projects are co-ordinated to meet community needs.
Project features include:• Widening Showground Road to four
lanes between Carrington Road and Old Northern Road
• Modifications to the intersection of Showground Road and Pennant Street
• A new set of traffic lights at the intersection of Showground Road, Kentwell Avenue and Cheriton Avenue
• A new set of traffic lights at the intersection of Showground Road and Rowallan Avenue
• Adjustment of line marking to meet the existing four lane section of the road near the Carrington Road intersection
• Adjustment of line marking to meet the existing four lane section of the road near the Old Northern Road intersection
• Bus priority measures at traffic lights in the eastbound direction
• Left-in / left-out restriction at the intersection of Showground Road and Britannia Road
• Provision of off-road walking and cycling facilities along Showground Road
A plan showing the key features of the widening is included overleaf, and is also available to view or download from the project web page.
To know more about the project and to register for future updates, please contact Roads and Maritime project team at [email protected] or phone (02) 8849 2465 during business hours.
