• Established to enhance SHRM’s Student Programs

• Group consists of:> State College Relations Directors> Chapter College Relations Chairs/ Student Chapter Liaisons> Student Chapter Advisors

• The state college relations director:> Serves as liaison between student chapters within the state and the

state council> Is a communication link between student chapters, chapter liaisons,

the state council and SHRM Student Programs> Encourages chapter participation in the merit award program,

regional student conferences and HRGames> Coordinates student activities and involvement at the state

conference> Works with advisors and local chapters to ensure student

participation in local professional meetings> Advocates on behalf of student members at the local and state

levels as needed

• The chapter college relations chair/chapter liaison:> Works with sponsored student chapters at local learning institutions> Assists student chapter advisor in getting students involved with

professionals at the local level> Promotes communication between student and professional

• The student chapter advisor:> Is primary contact for the chapter> Provides continuity from year-to-year> Partners with sponsoring professional chapter and chapter liaison> Submits Student Chapter Information Form online by September 30

State Council College Relations Director Goals:

• Maintain contact with chapter college relations chairs by phone, email or face-to-face a minimum of two times per year.

• Facilitate conference calls between chapter college relations chairs to discuss college relations programs and share successful practices.

• Ensure local chapters all have college relations chairs.

• Provide opportunities for students to attend state conferences or state leadership conferences to enhance their degree learning and networking opportunities.

Chapter College Relations Chair Goals:

• Strengthen link to chapter advisors and familiarize yourself with all college relations roles, including student chapter advisor, chapter college relations chair and state college relations director.

• Put college relations on chapter meeting agendas for updates.

• Unbundle workforce readiness and college relations roles into two separate volunteer positions.

• Review chapter bylaws to ensure policies do not prohibit recent graduates from joining your chapter, especially those former students who have no HR work experience.

Student Chapter Advisor Goals:

• Submit the student chapter information form online by September 30.

• Recruit and retain at least eight student members in the chapter by November 30.

• Provide succession planning assistance to student chapter officers to ensure a successful transition for your incoming chapter leaders.

• Encourage chapter participation in the SHRM Student Chapter Merit Award program to achieve national recognition for your student chapter.

• Offer job shadow days, where chapter members individually sponsor students at their place of business

• Compile a speakers list for your student chapters to be able to have guest speakers at their meetings

• Assemble a list of available internships and entry-level HR jobs in your area for students and recent graduates

• Ask students to volunteer to staff your registration table at meetings and conferences

• Encourage the chapter advisor to be a member of the local chapter

• Provide assistance to student chapter members in meeting expenses to attend state, regional or national conferences
