SHS KEEPING CONNECTED
Congratulations to all families who have adapted brilliantly to the new home-learning arrangements in
the last two weeks. As we begin the Easter holiday, we would like to take the opportunity to wish pupils, parents and staff a safe and relaxing break. Whilst we will not be setting any work over the next fortnight,
we have included lots of activities in our third edition of the weekly newsletter in order to keep you busy!
Throughout the newsletter you will find opportunities to contribute and get involved. All you need to do is email [email protected].

Scrabble is the classic board game that always spells F-U-N! Consisting of interlocking words, crossword fashion, onto a playing board. The object of the
game is to get the highest score, and scores are given for letter values and boosted by premium squares on the grid. Scrabble game is not only fun but will
improve your vocabulary as each time you play you are introduced to new
and exciting words!

British Antarctic Survey are running a competition to design a stamp to celebrate 200 years since the
discovery of Antarctica. It would be great if Seaham High School could have some student entries. If you
do enter remember to email your teacher to let them know. The website has all the details you need.

Science Easter Competition
Make a solar system model
Make an edible cell model
Find out which household chemicals (e.g. lemon juice, vinegar, cola, toothpaste) will clean a
copper coin (or any metal object) the best
Grow a seed or bean – draw it or record its size every few days
Go on a virtual tour of space, a zoo, a wildlife park or a science museum (see Mr Langland's
list of virtual tours) and write / draw about what you found out
Make a model volcano. Can you make it explode?
Make a range of paper aeroplanes and find out which will fly the furthest
Make a poster about how to protect / save the environment
Find out what type of exercise makes your heart rate go up the most
Make an optical illusion (and explain the science behind it)
Send a photo of anything you do to your science teacher – prizes will be awarded for the best
projects when we return to school.
STUDENT WINNER – WEEK 2
CONGRATULATIONS to Jake S in year 8 who once again wins the CHALLENGE MAT competition. Jake
will be awarded with a £20 Amazon voucher for his EXCEPTIONAL engagement in week one and two. Well done Jake.
The challenge mat will return following the Easter break. Between now and then, why not take part in Mr
Lax’s Easter break isolation challenge.
Anti-Bullying Competition
At Seaham High School we are committed to creating awareness of Bullying
and to do everything we can to stop it and support students who experience bullying.
Even though we are not in school, bullying via social media can still take place,
therefore please be aware that we are still here to support you and that there are many places that can offer support you.

Complete all of the challenges below, for each one you complete you will receive the points allocated to that
challenge. As proof you have completed a challenge photograph yourself doing it and send it to
[email protected] with your name and the challenge name. There is a prize for the student who
completes the most. This will be given when we are back to school – there are 100 points up for grabs!
STAR BAKER AWARD – WEEK 2
Each week we will award one star baker award
to a student who has created a culinary masterpiece. The winner will receive:
• a technology scratch card• hot chocolate treat for you and a friend
• a certificate of recognition.
