Dear
Friends,
We are
both back
into the
routine
of
pursuing
opportunities
in Singapore. Bob had returned the latter part
of
August and
Diane arrived on October 6. There was a sl ight
bi t
of anxiety
in get ting Diane's visa as the last day to pick it up was
October 8. That was a clsoe call.
However , Diane
was sure
that
her explanation of being a new
grandmother
would
soften
the
hearts
of those
processing the papers.
Our first grandchild, a girl,
Amber
Lynn, was born on
September 12th in Mitchell, South Dakota to our daughter,
Debora and her
husband, Damon
Bartscher. She weighed 10
lbs. 2 oz. and was 24 inches long.
Undoubtedly, the
cutest
baby
in the world
Debora
is
doing
very well
and
we want to
thank
all
of
you who kept her in your prayers. The Lord truly
kept her strong and gave her needed strength for a diff icult
delivery.
A few days
after Diane's
arr ival in Singapore, we moved
our
living quarters to a different location. The church building,
where we
had
been living, needed
our
four rooms for
classroom space. We were happy to find a house with many
windows
and an
extra
room
for the many guests pasing
through
and/or
visiting Singapore. Our new house is actually
an old one, built
just after
the war.
Bob's
handyman
experience proved invaluable in redoing electrical work and
plumbing. We had meetings and guests even before boxes
were unpacked. We feel blessed to have a place that will be
thoroughly
used for
our
witness here.
Many
Christians have
already
expressed a desire to come
and
stay with us on
weekends as a spiritual retreat from their crowded and noisy
flats (apartments).
Our new home is several miles from t he cen te r of town in th e
northeastern part of
the island.
Therefore,
we stepped
out
on
faith
and
were able to acquire a 1982
Mazda
323 car.
The
cost
is $9,000 (United States money). While we have begun
making
car
payments, we still need the ini tial down payment
of 2500 (U.S. immediately).
The
work is doing well. Rich and Jo Sheeley did a marvelous
jo b of
filling in
fo r
us whi le we were
on furlough. They
were
able
to
accomplish
several
constructive things
in
ou r
absence.
Rich
and
Jo are now contemplating working
with
another
independent church group who claim to be New
Testament
in
doctrine.
There
are several such
groups
meeting around
Singapore.
Bob's trip to
Sri
Lanka
in
September proved to
be another
spirit-filled and rewarding one. The church is now in the
process
of building
a
church
building.
The Christians
are
meeting in
three different
areas.
The total number attending
is over 100, includ ing children. Dur ing
Bob's
teaching
and
training
visit,
nine
accepted
Jesus
as
their personal Saviour
and were baptized. Bob is in the process of making a video of
his last trip to Sri Lanka
and
will be distributing it among ou r
supporting churches.
