SIKA AT WORKSYDNEY CRICKET GROUNDLOWER CONCOURSEProduct: Sikafloor 160, Sikafloor 264
PROJECT OVERVIEW & REQUIREMENTS
PROJECT DESCRIPTIONThe Sydney Cricket Ground, originally built in 1882, is one of the most iconic sporting stadiums in Australia and home to a number of sporting teams including the Sydney Sixers cricket team and the Sydney Swans. With a capacity of 48,000, the stadium is an important part in Australia’s sporting culturewith the ground hosting over 100 cricket test matches, includ-ing the most recent Ashes series.
Given the arena supports many teams and hosts events all year round, millions of spectators pass through its gates every year. This results in a need for constant maintenance of the stadium, including its numerous high-traffic flooring areas.
PROJECT REQUIREMENTSThe project required a flooring solutions for the lower con-course of the Bradman, Noble and Messenger stands. Given the high levels of foot traffic the area would receive, the flooring solution needed to be extremely tough, durable while being easy to clean and somewhat aesthetically pleasing.
A challenge for this project was the time restraints. With the ground set to be home for the impending 3 match series of Major League Baseball, with two teams from the US and Team Australia competing there, a rapid solution was required for the 2000m2 area. Firmstone flooring was appointed to apply the floor and was given approximately 10 days to prep and lay.
