When endodontics becomes synonymous with simplicitywave•oneTM, from Dentsply Maillefer, sets new standards in endodontics according to

dentists, by bringing simplicity, safety and efficiency to the root canal shaping procedure,

using only one NiTi instrument per root canal in most cases.

The complexity of endodontic procedures may discourage many practitioners from

performing this type of treatment. However, wave•oneTM introduces the concept of

simplicity in endodontics, in order to save time and increase comfort, whilst still

offering a technique that provides premium quality root canal treatments.

Single file technique with reciprocating motion

The wave•oneTM motor works in reciprocating mode, which means that it continuously

changes its rotating direction during the shaping procedure. Using a large rotating

angle in the cutting direction provides high efficiency and using a smaller angle in the

reverse direction helps the wave•oneTM file to successively progress along the canal

path, whilst respecting the root canal anatomy. The optimized angles also reduce the

risk of a screwing effect and file breakage.* wave•oneTM reciprocation therefore

increases the practitioner’s confidence as well as the patient’s safety.

The advantages of the reciprocating technique are numerous. First of all, it makes it

possible to shape most root canals using only one single wave•oneTM Nickel-Titanium

file. This means that no time is wasted changing NiTi instruments during the root canal

shaping procedure. This brings optimal simplicity to the practitioner and decreases the

global shaping time by up to 40% versus a traditional rotary technique in continuous motion.

Dentsply utilizes an innovative thermal treatment process to create the M-Wire™ NiTi

material. Its resulting characteristics provide overall flexibility and greater resistance

to cyclic fatigue, the leading cause of file separation. In fact, the tougher the instru-

menting challenge, like shaping severely curved canals to the apex, the more appa-

rent the M-Wire™ NiTi’s advantages become.

The wave•oneTM fileThe wave•oneTM file has a geometry that was conceived specifically in order to bring

a maximum of user benefits from the reciprocating movement of the wave•oneTM

motor. This geometry, combined with the proprietary Dentsply M-Wire™ Nickel-Titanium

technology are the main reasons for the superior performance of the wave•oneTM file

compared to most NiTi files on the market today.

Dentsply Maillefer advocates a new standard of care, by proposing the wave•oneTM

reciprocating NiTi files exclusively in pre-sterilized blister packs and fitted with a non

autoclavable handle.

When single use becomes affordableMost dental practitioners are seeking ways to reduce operating costs in their practice.

Using one single wave•oneTM rotary file for each shaping procedure, instead of four to

five, finally makes it affordable to implement a single use policy for endodontic instru-

ments. The wave•oneTM files are supplied in a pre-sterilized blister pack and cannot

be sterilized for a second patient treatment.

wave•oneTM shaping techniqueThe primary wave•oneTM file is designed to fully shape the majority of all root canals.

However, if a K-File 10 is very resistant to movement then the appropriate size is small. If

a K-File 20 easily goes to length then the appropriate wave•oneTM file size is large.

Usually one single wave•oneTM file will be enough to fully shape the root canal.

Why single patient use of endodontic files makes sense

SimplicityThere is no need for disinfecting, cleaning, sterilizing and organizing the wave•oneTM

NiTi files.

No risk for cross contaminationNo matter how well an instrument is sterilized, research shows that certain bacteria and tissue remnants may remain on the instrument. Therefore, any re-use of these instruments increases the potential for cross-infection for the next patient.

Optimal cutting efficiency *Further research has shown that using endodontic files in multiple cases actually reduces their cutting efficiency. Ultimately, this reduces operating efficiency in a dental practice and affects the satisfaction of both the dentist and the patient. With wave•oneTM there is no reduction in cutting efficiency, as a new instrument is used for each patient.

Better control of file breakageEndodontic files exhibit signs of wear during normal use. They are also subject to cyclic fatigue, the main cause of file breakage. This will gradually alter the physical properties of the file, which potentially can lead to file breakage during patient treat-ment. Single use therefore gives better control of file breakage and thus increased patient safety.
