t’s been said, “when the goinggets tough, the tough get going.”This is when the men and women

who work for you come shiningthrough, ready to do their best.

Stop and think about it for amoment—not many folks would con-sider going to work for a place that isapt to receive calls in the middle of thenight, asking you to get out of yourcozy bed and come to work. But that’swhat happens when you work for anelectric utility on a regular basis duringthe summer thunderstorm season.

Washington EMC is not immuneto the destructive forces of nature.Summer thunderstorms often fill thesky with lightning that can wreakhavoc on an electric distribution sys-tem. The high winds that accompanystrong storms can break tree limbsthat collapse onto electric lines. Thesewinds can also uproot trees that fall, breaking power lines and poles.

When weather conditions are attheir worst, it is the time when the

folks who work for Washington EMCare at their best. Working through thenight to keep the power on is no easytask. Many times, such as occurred inone recent storm that raged all nightand into the next day, the electricitygets put back on in one location onlyto go out at another.

The Washington EMC servicearea covers 10 counties across 4,000square miles of land stretching fromabove I-20 in the north to near I-16 inthe south. There are a lot of thingsthat can go wrong during the hotsummer months. You can be sure thepeople who work for you do every-thing possible to keep the electricsystem working as it should. If thepower does go out, they’ll get it backon as soon as is safely practical.

The men and women at Washing-ton EMC are proud to work for you.You can count on them to get going atfull-speed when the going gets tough.Day or night, rain or shine, you candepend on them.
