As the size of the worlds population increases sodo the number of queues and their queuelength. In the business world, more customers

means more business transactions. Out of themany ways to attract customers, an efficientqueuing system plays an important role as itreduces a customers waiting time. As a result, the shorter waiting time makes customershappy, and one thing for sure is that a happycustomer will come back for business again.

Technological Institute of the Philippines or "TIP" isa private university in the Philippines whichspecializes in the traditional fields of engineering and

ICT (Information Communications Technology). The campus gives a lot of services like academic

services to satisfy the needs and to give excellenceand total quality education to its customers.

Having a huge number of students like theTechnological Institute of the Philippine, theInstitution should provide great services for theirstudents and faculties.

One of the services given by the campus is theirEncoding and Tellering Queuing system that servesstudents for the enrollment of subjects and paymentof their tuition and other school fees.

As a student in TIP we observed a problem eachstudent is encountering in the encoding of theirsubjects and on payment of their tuition fees in theenrollment.

Due to a large number of students enrolling on the 1

    st

week of the enrollment period, it takes a huge amountof waiting time when a student enters the queue toencode his or her subject and to pay their tuitionsfees.

The Encoding and Tellering Department is usinga multiple server queuing system. A multipleserver queuing is a system whereby the

customers line up in rows directly in front ofeach server. They are arranged in relativelystraight lines that do not converge. Generally, the customers in a multiple-channels queue feelmore comfortable than single server queuingbecause the queue length is shortened as theyare distributed to different counters.

To conduct a simulation study on the queuingsystem.

To provide a solution to the encounteredproblems.

To help reduce the waiting time of thestudents when enrolling.

To improve the process not only inaccounting system, but also in the wholeprocess of enrollment system.

To lessen the work of tellers and staffs in thequeue.

To educate students to follow simple rules inthe queuing system.

Our project evaluates the performance of amultiple server queuing system specifically theenrollment process involving the encoding and

tellering section of our campus. To fully understand the different events

happening in the queuing system and to providemeaningful solutions we conducted analysis andinterviews to the employees working in theencoding and tellering department to gathersome data from the last enrollment period.

More than 10,000 students are enrolled in TIPQ.C

    The 1st

3 days of the enrollment period hasthe most number of students enrolling. The Encoding and Tellering department are

serving approximately 1500 students per day. The Encoding and Tellering department is

using the First Come First Serve basis (FCFS).

Each student is given 1 number if they enterthe queue.

Each transaction in the encoding section is

done for 5 minutes and the transactionsmade in the tellering section is also done for 3 4 minutes.

There are 10 booths on the encoding section

and there are 7 encoders on duty. On the tellering section, there are 8 tellering

booths and 5 booths are on duty.

To be able to estimate the different processesand events happening in queuing system, we willuse the Pro Model Software to provide a

representation on how the system works and tocome up with good solutions to help solve theproblems encountered during the enrollmentprocess.

Data gathering, interviews, and observation oncurrent the queuing system took us a week tofully understand the different aspects andfactors affecting the enrollment queuing systemprocess inside our campus.

We suggest to add more tellers and encodersto provide more service for the students. We

notice that there are vacant tellering boothsso the school should add more tellers andalso tellering equipments to increase thenumber of students served. If they have moretellers, more students they will going to servein a short period of time.

An advanced reminder for the students topay their tuition early to avoid encountering a

large number of students in the queue. Having an on-line enrollment system.

The number of students served by thetellers are increased when there are more

tellers on duty. Faster and easy way of enrollment when

there are more tellers and encoders that

can minimize the number of studentswaiting on the queue.

The significance of these studies willprovide the institution a great reduction on

the time that the students spent. The employees in the accounting office will

also receive the benefits of the system in

making their work easier and faster.
