Rilassati a bordo
za all’ultimo piano dello storico Brufani Palace l’occhio spazia sulle verdi colline e val-
late umbre, mentre dalle deliziose mansarde del Palace Maria Luigia i caratteristici tetti
della città catturano lo sguardo dell’ospite.

18 SINA HOTELS MAGAZINE
Italy is a precious casket of natural beauties also of priceless works of art and all these treasures
can be easily discovered when you stay in the SINA Hotels. Like the spectacular views from the
majestic windows of the Relais Villa Matilde over the belfry of the Baroque Church of Santa Marta
in the little town of Romano Canavese which, with its picturesque alleyways and artisan shops,
casts a magic all its own. From the suites and the penthouses on the top floor of the splendid 18th-
century villa in the heart of Florence which is now the Grand Hotel Villa Medici the windows
frame the magnificent dome of the cathedral designed by Brunelleschi. And, just a little further
away, the belfry designed by Giotto who took over as master mason and threw himself body and
soul into completing this great masterpiece. The skyline of the Eternal City and its famous multi-
hued sunsets can be admired in all their imperial splendour from the suites and rooms of the Hotel
Bernini Bristol which is strategically placed, just a short walk from the dazzling nightlife of Via
Veneto. In Milan, the city that never sleeps, SINA plays two trump cards. Relaxing beside the pool
in the refined Hotel de la Ville it seems you can reach out and touch the soaring spires of the
Cathedral, while from The Gray the views are of the bustling crowds in the Galleria
Vittorio Emanuele, one of the symbols of this city. Venice’s lagoon is the exceptional
backdrop for the stunning white Antinoo’s Lounge & Restaurant in the Centurion
Palace, while the Belle Epoque rooms in the Palazzo Sant’Angelo overlook the placid
waters of the world’s most romantic city.
From the nautical-style terrace of the Hotel Astor in Viareggio, one of Italy’s most
famous seaside resorts, the view is an invitation to dive into the sparkling blue waters
of the Tyrrhenian Sea on the Tuscan Coast.
And then there are Perugia and Parma: two splendid art cities. From the terrace on the
top floor of the historic Brufani Palace the eye wanders over the green hills and valleys
of Umbria, while Parma and its old rooftops are to be enjoyed from the charming upper-floor
rooms in the Palace Maria Luigia.

poi nel realizzare oggetti a nostro parere, accessoriati, realizzati e rifiniti

what as surprise! You will discover one of the oldest and great leather roman artisan in
Rome, Aldo Filosini owner with his wife Natalina of the oldest leather shop and factory in
Rome called “The Leather Craftsman”.
The factory (located in Vicolo dei Maroniti) moved in the area during the 70’s
when Aldo, who starts his career when he was only thirteen years old, had finished
his apprenticeship to “Vecchia Scuola del Cuoio” in the 60’s.
We believe, luckily for us, that he cannot do anything else but going on with his
work with the leather as he also said, his work is also his passion.
Bags, belts, wallets and other accessories both for men and women are made in a
variety of quality leathers and colours and some of them, as Aldo told us during
our visit, without any chemical products applied and only vegetable tanning too.
He is pleased to realize leather pieces with great perfection and finishing touches so
to get the customers satisfied. You can find beautiful fashionable woman bags, brief-
cases, satchels, suitcases, wallets, charge purses, writing desk sets, keychains, key
cases, leather boxes, card folders, spectacle cases, penholders and anything you can
image made of real good leather.
Entering in the factory your senses are stirred up with the memory of the smell of
the old leather and you can move freely over the thousand bags, wallets and belts
well organised on shelves and you are scure that plastic is forbidden in the shop.
We trust that a visit to them it is not time wasted and it is one of the few old shops in Roma
where is convenient to buy.

L’Hotel Bernini Bristol festeggia quest’anno i 40 annidall’acquisizione da parte di SINA Fine Italian Hotels.
THIS YEAR THE HOTEL BERNINI BRISTOL IS CELEBRATING THE 40THANNIVERSARY OF ITS ACQUISITION BY SINA FINE ITALIAN HOTELS.
Inoltre nell’anno 2000, in occa-
Small Luxury Hotels of the World che annovera già tra i suoi membri altri alberghi del gruppo
Sina Hotels e cioè The Gray di Milano, il Centurion Palace e il Palazzo Sant’Angelo di Venezia.
The hotel was built by Prince Barberini and, inaugurated on 29th October 1974, was one of
the first modern hotels opened in Rome after the annexation of the Kingdom of Italy. Word
of the elegance and modern quality of its hospitality quickly spread, also outside Italy, and it

attracted many famous families and royalty. Renovated at the end of the Thirties, it was cal-
led Bernini in honour of the sculptor of the famous Triton Fountain in the square in front of
the hotel, leaving the name Bristol with which it had become famous around the world. For
those times the hotel had many avant-garde features and it was called Italy’s most modern
hotel, reaching new heights of fame during the 1950 Jubilee Year which brought throngs of
visitors to the Eternal City.
In 1973, just before its 100th anniversary from the first opening, the Bernini
Bristol was taken over by SINA Fine Italian Hotels which carried out radi-
cal renovations to modernize the property. Particular attention was given to
these renovations with emphasis on the decor of the rooms and the suites
which were brought up to the highest levels of modern comfort. Today it is
one of the most popular hotels in Rome with its 127 rooms and suites
which have either classical or contemporary decor and include the Tritone
and Trevi suites on the sixth floor. These suites have their own gyms and
large terraces with swimming pools as well as stunning views over the monuments of Rome.
In the 2000 Jubilee Year the hotel opened the eight-floor L’Olimpo, the highest restaurant in
the old heart of Rome with 360-degree views over the city. The hotel also has elegant rooms
for receptions and meetings, the cosy and elegant Bristol Bar and a a wellness centre with a
Turkish bath, sauna, Jacuzzi and a range of beauty treatments: facilities that offer the highest
levels of comfort and service to guests from all over the world.
On 1st January this year the Hotel Bernini Bristol became a member of the prestigious Small
Luxury Hotels of the World, joining another three SINA hotels: The Gray in Milan, and the
Centurion Palace and Palazzo Sant’Angelo in Venice.

interessarsi all’arte facendo essa parte integrante della propria comunicazione ufficiale.
ting, di numerosi riferimenti all’arte.

preparata dai nostri predecessori.
tamente attuali valori.
The Art Gallery deals with this multifaceted Artist from 1980.
Since that time the role of the Gallery was not only to spread the Artist’s name but also to awaken
collectors and private and public institutions in order that art is an integral part of their official
communication.
After the short technicist period in which they believed that the massive industrial production
would also replace the human imagination and that technology would be the only heir of the
humanist world, we are experiencing a slow but inexorable rediscovery of the values of con-
templation and manual dexterity.
Managers have started to enrich the corporate communication and marketing with a lot of refe-
rences to art.
In the past the wealthy men of power, resources and culture, well understood that artists could
celebrate their businesses and maximize their memory, leaving to posterity
precious works of art.
The Catholic Church was the most prominent example in the Modern Era
of an Institution caring and capable to make art an effective instrument to
edification of Civil Society. So all the people gathered around the com-
missioned great works of art. Our country can boast such a priceless cul-
tural heritage thanks to those great patrons who loved art supporting their
own personal moral and material interests. Today you can still continue
that way prepared by our predecessors so well.
The Art Gallery “Galleria d’Arte III Millennio” is here to renew your confi-
dence in those ancient but totally modern values.

ON THE SEAFRONT PROMENADE TO DISCOVER THE SUN AND FUN, THE CULTURE
AND THE SOPHISTICATION THAT IS THE VERSILIA, WHICH IS OPEN ALL YEAR ROUND...
smo in mountain bike.
Sea, muSic and SophiStication in Viareggio
42 SINA HOTELS MAGAZINE
In the heart of the Versilia region, Viareggio on the Tuscan seaboard, is one of Italy’s most beau-
tiful and popular resorts and the Hotel Astor is the perfect starting point – and one to which you
will want to return – to discover the sea and sun, cultural attractions and sophistication of this
delightful part of Italy. Ask any inhabitant of Viareggio and you will be told that, after the annual
carnival the city’s most popular attraction is the Passeggiata. You might think that this seafront
is much like any other, but the sweeping promenade, framed by magnificent Art
Deco buildings, is much more as it is the beating heart of the Versilia region. In sum-
mer, but also in winter thanks to its wonderfully mild climate, Viareggio is the place
to come for its stunning beaches and the luxuriant backcountry of the Apuan Alps
with its nature reserves which are ideal for trekking, hiking and mountain biking. By
day and by night the Versilia is a Mecca for fun and entertainment with a wide range
of amusements to choose from like the Viareggio Carnival and the Puccini Festival
in Torre del Lago where the great composer lived and which now houses the Puc-
cini Museum. And then there is the Viareggio-Rèpaci Literary Prize which was foun-
ded in 1929 and is a high point in Italy’s contemporary literature festivals.
The Hotel Astor is in a splendid position but what makes it really unique is the amazing vista
over Viareggio’s promenade. The hotel’s public areas are spacious and most of the guest rooms
have large windows that look out on the sea and the beach. The Astor is also an oasis of well-
being: from the heated indoor pool to the Wellness Centre where guests can relax. For all those
who love the sea there is the hotel’s solarium with its unique style and features which overlooks
the sea, and where it is easy to dream of sailing the high seas on an ancient galleon. While for
those intent on spending a romantic afternoon we suggest a walking tour of Viareggio’s noble
villas before relaxing over a candle-lit dinner in the hotel’s La Conchiglia restaurant.
Night owls will love every minute of Viareggio’s movida. A cocktail on the Astor’s terrace is the
perfect way to admire the Versilia’s famous sunsets, and the Darsena with its live-music bars and
clubs is just the place to wind up another exciting day in Viareggio.

The bike shown in the picture is called “001” and it
is glass in full, combining different compositions
and techniques. It represents our Masters’ soul,
always evolving, looking for new, challenging
rather difficult fusions and original ideas. The
tank and the mudguards are glass in full, fu-
sing yellow, red and black glass; after 24 hours
of temper, the glass starts to be worked at the
grinding wheels, carving, frosting and polishing
to stand out the contrast of the different co-
lors inside the glass. The three glass pieces are
LED stripes illuminated. The saddle is a massif
fusion of black glass. It needed two days of tem-
per and than a patient work at the grinding
wheels engraving and polishing.
The generous tires made of blown black glass
measure 300 millimeters in diameter. They are
tempered, sandblasted and engraved and con-
tain perfect circles mirrored glass.
The knobs are a fusion of black glass, tempered
and then carved. Brakes and mirrors are respec-
tively solid glass frosted and mirrored.
The scrub of the “001" is made entirely of glass
and equipped with led backlight.
The engine is blown and mirrored glass.

Works by the great Flemish master Brueghelhave been on view in the Chiostro del Bra-mante from 18th December 2012 and the ex-hibition will run through 2nd June 2013. Thisis the first major exhibition devoted to theBrueghel family in Rome. A unique opportu-nity to admire the masterpieces of an excep-tionally talented dynasty dating to betweenthe 16th and 17th centuries: a historical familyportrait stretching over 150 years.
There are over 100 paintings in the exhibition, offering the pubic the chance to see manymagnificent works from important Italian andinternational museums and art galleries, andalso from prestigious private collections fromall over the world: masterpieces that are noteasily accessible and some of which have ne-ver before been put on public display. A not-to-be-missed chance to appreciate ex-traordinary paintings for the first time in Italy, like the magnificent The Seven Works of Mi-sericordia (1616-1618 ca.) by Pieter Brue-ghel the Younger, in which different types ofcharity are depicted through the intensity ofthe portraits, bringing to mind the contrastwith the Seven Deadly Sins by HieronymusBosch (1500 ca.), or The Charlatan by the Bo-

sch school, both of which are in the exhibitionand have never before been seen in Rome. And it is with the relationship between Pieterthe Elder, (1525/1530 ca.-1569) and Bosh thatthe story of the Brueghel dynasty starts. Boschwas Pieter the Elder’s “spiritual maestro,” andPieter Brueghel the Elder interpreted in an ear-thly way the dreamlike visions of the greatpainter, moving away from a style that waspolished and concentrated on tradition to amore figurative and expressive style that put alot of attention on landscapes and the rapportbetween man and nature with scenes of pea-sants dancing, and recurring metaphorical pro-verbs, that brought enduring changes to Fle-mish painting, opening it to modernity. Brue-ghel was the illustrator of a world that even in
that era met with much success outside hisnative land after his death. The comic and gro-tesque elements in his works served as didac-tical guidance for his sons, Pieter the Younger(1564-1638) and Jan the Elder (1568-1625).However the dynasty did not end with themalthough it became more ramified, movingaway from the patriarch to far-flung descen-dants in a complicated network of relation-ships which are presented with precision andrigour in the exhibition. In fact the exhibitionfollows an itinerary that focuses on the life andworks of each single artist, and it developslogically embracing historical references re-levant to the era. It closes with David Teniersthe Younger (1610 -1690) who was related toBrueghel as he wed the daughter of Ambro-
