Cuando se usa un aparato electrico, debe seguirse unas precauciones b&sicas, que vienenincluidas a continuaci6n.

PELIGRO - Para reducir el riesgo de una descarga electrica.
1. La maquina no debe dejarse nunca desatendida mientras este conectada. Desconectar lam&quina de la red electrica inmediatamente despu6s de su uso y antes de limpiarla.
2. Desconectar la maquina de la red antes de cambiar la bombilla.Colocar una bombilla del mismo tipo con una potencia de 15 Watios.

8. Para desconectar, girar el interruptor hasta la posici6n Off ("0") luego desconectar el enchufede la red.
9. No desconectar el enchufe tirando de! cable. Para desconectar, tirar de la clavija, no dotcabte.
10, Mantener los dedos alejados de todas las partes movibles de la m&quina. Tenor cuidadoespecial con la aguja.
11. Usar siempre la placa de agujas apropiada. Una placa de agujas impropia puede producir larotura de la aguja.
12, No usar agujas despuntadas.
13. No presionar ni tirar del material mientras se esta cosiendo. Esto podria doblar la aguja yromperla.
14. Situar el interruptor principal de la m&quina en posici6n Off ("0") cuando se realice algSnajuste en el &rea de la aguja como enhebrar la aguja, cambiar la aguja, hilar ancolas, cambiarel pie prensatelas y similares.
15. Desconectar siempre la m&quina de la red electrica cuando se retiren las tapas, para lubricar,o cuando se reatice algSn otro tipo de ajuste mec&nico mencionado en el manual deinstrucciones.

SETTING UP YOUR MACHINE
1. Wipe off excess oil in the needle plate and bed areas.
2, FOOT CONTROL (1)
Push foot control plug into connector socket, and connect
the power line plug into power supply outlet,
3. POWER/LIGHT SWITCH (2)
Your machine will not operate unless the power/light switch
is turned on. This same switch controls both machine power
and sewing light.
When leaving the machine unattended, or servicing the
machine, remove the power line plug from supply outlet.
POLARIZED PLUGS CAUTION (USA only)
This product is equipped with a polarized alternating current
line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other).
This plug wil! fit into the power outlet only one way. This is a
safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into
the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to
fit, contact an electrician to replace the obsolete outlet. Do
not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug.
Use Yamamoto Electric, Model YC-482E with this sewingmachine.
MONTAJE DE SU MAQUINA
1. Asegurese de limpiar la zona de la placa de la aguja y la

LINT TRAY
To remove lint tray from storage position, pull it to the right
and lift up and off.
To set tray in working position (to collect waste material while
sewing), place pin (11 into upper hole(2) and latch notch (3)
into slot (4). To return to the storage positien, remove tray and
turn tray upwards in direction shown. Place pin (1) into lower
hole (5). Tab (6) will lock into notch (7).
In either position, push the tray to the left to lock in place.
CHANGING PRESSER FEET
Be sure needle is in the up position. Raise presser foot lever.
1. Push foot release lever (8) to remove the foot.
2. Place the desired foot on the needle plate aligning needleholes.
3. Lower the presser foot lever and push foot release lever (8)
so that the foot holder snaps on the foot.
BATEA DE HILOS
Para quitar la batea de hilos de su posici6n, tirarla a la
derecha, levantarla y quitarla.
Para poner la batea en la posicion de trabajo (para coger
materiales gastados mientras cosiendo), poner el alfiler (1) en
el agujero arriba (2) y pestillo (3) en la abertura (4).
Para volver a su posicibn original, quitar la batea y girarla al

CAMBIO DEL PIE PRENSATELAS
Asegurarse de que la aguja este en la posici6n superior. Alzar
la palanca del pie prensatelas.
1. Empujar la palanca de desprendimiento prensatelas (8)
para sacar el prensatelas.

CHANGING NEEDLE
Raise needle bar to its highest point by turning hand wheel
towards you, but leave presser foot down. Loosen needle clamp
screw (1) to remove the needle, and place new needle with Flat
Side Away From You, into the needle bar as far as it will go,
and tighten screw.
MONTAR LA(S) AGUJA(S)
Levantar la barra de las agujas hasta su punto mas alto girando
el volante manual hacia usted, pero deje el pie prensatelas
abajo.
Soltar el tornillo de sujeci6n (1) de la aguja con un
destornillador pequer_o para quitar las agujas viejas. Colocar

rethreading your machine are on pages 12 - 14. If you do notwish to rethread at this time, please take a moment to review
these pages and examine the proper threading technique forthe machine.

THREAD GUIDE POLE
Pull up thread guide pole (1) to the highest point until you
hear it click. Place thread spools on pins.
Thread guides (2) of poles can hold larger thread spools onthe spool stand by pulling down the pole as illustrated.

SPOOL CAPS FOR DOMESTIC TYPE TAPAS PARA CARRETES DE HILOSPOOLS DOMESTICO
The spool caps (1) hold smaller spools of thread in place.
SPOOL DISC AND SPOOL HOLDERS FORCONE SPOOLS
For large cone spools, place the spool discs (2) onto the spool
pins (3) of the machine. Place the rubber spool holders (4)
onto the pins. For larger cone spools, use the rubber spool
holders with the wide end at the top, and for smaller ones, use
the narrow end at the top. (See illustration)
SPOOL NETS
Polyester or bulky nylon threads become loose while
unwinding. To keep consistent feeding of such threads, utilize
spool net sleeving over the spool.
Place net (5) over spool, turn up bottom edges (6), and bringthread through the top (7).

MALLAS DE CARRETES

THREADING YOUR MACHINE
Wrong threading may cause skipped stitches,breaking threads, or other problems.
A color coded diagram for threading themachine is located inside the front cover. Thelower looper is indicated in purple, the upperlooper in blue, the right needle yellow and theleft needle green. The thread tension controlsare also labeled and color coded to assist inproperly threading the machine. Try to masterthe correct threading before moving on to testsewing.
Threading should be carried out in thefollowing sequence:Lower Looper (purple)Upper Looper (blue)Right Needle (yellow) - Left Needle (green)
Note: Thread tension is released when youpull the tension control knob.
THREADING LOWER LOOPER
Before rethreading the lower looper, removethread from the needle eyes first (ifnecessary), then rethread the lower looper.This will prevent tangling.
Open the front cover and the working table.Raise needle to its highest position by turningthe hand wheel towards you.
Thread the lower looper as indicated 1 - 8.
Pass thread from back to front through polethread guide (1).Feed the thread through the pre-tension threadguide (2), as illustrated.
Pull thread around lower looper thread tensioncontrol (3), as illustrated.Thread the looper area of the machine followingthe purple color coded thread guide 4 - 6.
Hook thread around guide (7) as indicated byarrow.
Draw thread through lower looper eye (8), frontto back, pulling gently so it will slip into the slotin looper.
• Pull about 4" (10 cm) of thread through loopereye and draw it under the presser foot and tothe left over the needle plate.

TESTING STITCH OVERLOCK STITCHES COMPROBAR LOS SOBREHILADOS
After threading is completed, use a scrap of fabric that you planto sew and test sew in the following order:
1. Gently pulling all the threads to the left, lower the presser
foot. Rotate the hand wheel towards you a few times to see
if the lock stitches are properly formed. (Fig. 1)

2. Start the machine at low speed and feed in test fabric under
the presser foot by slightly pushing it forward. (This can be
done with the presser foot down on most fabrics except
bulky materials.)
Guide the fabric gently as machine automatically feeds the
material. (Fig. 2)
3. Check thread tensions by test sewing on spare fabric. (See
page 22.)
4. At fabric end, carry On running machine at low speed, gently
pulling the fabric towards the back, until about 5 to 6 cm of
extra lock stitches are produced without fabric.
Cut thread with scissors. (Fig. 3)

HELPFUL HINTS
REPLACING THREAD SPOOLS
When replacing thread spools, the following steps may be
helpful for quick changeover.
1. Cut off existing threads near the spools (Fig. 1). Tie the cutends to thread from new spools as illustrated (seamen's
knot), (Fig. 2).
2. Raise presser foot and turn all tension controls to 0.
3. Lower needle bar to its lowest position by turning hand
wheel away from you. Carefully pull the existing thread one
by one until the connecting knots pass through needle eye
and looper eye.
4. Reset the tension controls.
CUTTING NEEDLE THREAD
Frayed thread may make needle threading difficult.
Draw the thread passing under the moving cutter and turn hand
wheel towards you to obtain clear cut end as illustrated (Fig. 3).
SUGERENCIAS DE AYUDA
REEMPLAZAR LOS CARRETES DE HILO
Cuando se reemplacen los carretes de hilo, para un cambio
r&pido, los siguientes pasos pueden set de ayuda:
1. Cortar los hilos existentes cerca de los carretes (Fig. 1). Ate
los bordes cortados al hilo de los nuevos carretes como
ilustrado. (Nudo de marineros), (Fig. 2)

3. Bajar la barra de aguja a la posici6n m&s bajo girando elvoiante manualmente en sentido de costura. Tirar
cuidadosamente de los hilos existentes hasta que los nudos
de conexion pasen a traves de ojo de aguja y ancora.
4. Refijar los diales de tensi6nes.
CORTAR EL HILO DE LA AGUJA
Un hilo deshilachado puede hacer dificil el enhebrado de la
aguja. Tire del hilo hasta que posicione debajo de la cuchilla
m6vil y gire el volante manualmente en sentido de costura para
obtener un porte limpio como ilustrado (Fig. 3).

NARROW AND ROLLED HEM, PICOT STITCH
Narrow (A) and rolled edge (B) is ideal for use on thin materials such as georgette crepe, crepede chine, silk etc.
Picot stitch (C) can be used when sewing on fine "scarflike" material. In view of the nature ofthese hems, they are unsuitable for use on "hard or heavy" materials.
1, Raise the presser foot.
2. Open the front cover and working table.
3. Remove the stitch finger (1) from the needle plate with the screw driver (2) (Fig. 1). Store it in
the front cover or accessory bag.
4. Set the machine according to the setting chart on page 17.
NOTE:
1. Use the following recommended thread.
2. After finishing, reinstall the stitch finger firmly between the spring and needle plate as

Remove stitch finger A (3) from the needle
plate with the screw driver (4).
Install stitch finger B (5) firmly between the

DIFFERENTIALFEED
Differential feed is a system which "stretches" or "gathers" thefabric when the amount of feed of front feed dog in relation tothe rear feed dog is changed.
The differential feed has two independent feed dogs, one trent(A) and one rear (B). (Fig.l)
Each feed dog has an individual feed mechanism whichenables the feeding of material at a different ratio.

The adjustment can be made between 0.7 (negative effect) and
2 (Positive effect). These settings give the best ratio of feeding.
For normal sewing, the dial should be set at 1.

DIFFERENTIAL FEED APPLICATIONS
Differential feed is designed to minimize puckering
wavering.
It is also very effective for gathering.

Puckering (1)
Puckering tends to occur on woven or sheer fabrics.
To obtain pucker-free seams, set the differential feed controldial at less than 1.
Wavering (2)
Wavering tends to occur on knitted or stretchable fabrics.To obtain waver-free seams, set the differential feed control
dial at more than 1.
Gathering (3)
Differential feed makes gathering easier on lightweightfabric. Use it on waistlines, sleeve heads, sleeve bottoms
and ruffles, etc.Set the differential feed control dial between 1.5 and 2 to
obtain the best gathering effect for your use.
IMPORTANT
The exact adjustment depends on the thickness and elasticity of
fabric. Even the stitch length can influence the setting. The
longer the stitches, the more the fabric is contracted.
Always do a test run with a piece of actual fabrics you use and
find the best settings.

Prefijar el nivelador de control entre 1,5 y 2 para obtener el
mejor efecto de fruncido para sus requerimientos.
IMPORTANTE
E! ajuste exacto depende del grosor y de la elasticidad del
tejido, Incluso la Iongitud de la puntada puede influenciar la
prefijaci6n. Cuanto mas larga es la puntada, masse contrae el
tejido. Hacer siempre una prueba con un trozo del tejido que
vaya a utilizar y encontrar los mejores resultados.

FOOT PRESSURE REGULATOR
Presser foot pressure has been correctly set at the factory, so
you do not need to adjust it for most of ordinary sewing. If
adjustment is necessary, turn the foot pressure regulator (1) to
higher number to increase or to lower number to decrease
pressure.

fabric. Open working table for adjustment.
Loosen (3) the screw (4) when sewing with light to normalweight fabric or turning overedge cutting width dial, or otherwisefabric may not be well cut.The machine is set for normal weight fabrics from the factory.

TURNING OUTSIDE CORNERS WITHOUTCUTTING THREADS
1. When you reach the fabric edge, stop stitching with theneedle above the fabric.
2. Raise the presser foot and gently pull on the thread chain
just enough to clear the stitch finger.
3. Turn the fabric, lower the presser foot and begin stitching in
the new direction. Fig. 1.
NOTE: When overlocking and trimming at the same time, cut
the fabric along the new stitching line for about 3 cm,
before turning the fabric. Fig. 2.
TURNING CURVED EDGES
For inside curves, guide fabric gently with trimmin9 line of the
fabric under the right front of the presser foot (or a little to the
left), applying pressure at point A in the direction of the arrow
with your left hand, and at the same time applying a little
opposite pressure at point B with your right hand. Fig. 3.
For outside curves place under the presser foot in a similar
manner but applying the pressure in the opposite directions.

opuesta o contrapresi6n en el punto B con su mano derecha.

intervals and pull out looper thread(s).

CORDED OVERLOCK
Corded overlock can be used to strengthen shoulder, sleeve or
side seams when joining or making up knitted garments. As a
decorative feature you can use knitting yarn of contrasting
colours to further enhance your garment• Your machine is
equipped with a presser foot which has been designed to feed
your cord or yarn to the left of the safety stitch or to the right.Follow instructions as follows:
Clip detachable cord guide to thread guide pole extension.
1. Place a 'frilled' cord, such as a crochet cotton, gimp, wool,
knitting yarn, or shirring elastic at the rear of the machine
spool pin• Pass the cord through the cord guides (1) and (2)
and then through the left needle thread guide (3). See Fig.!.
Insert the cord through either the front or rear hole
(according to the operation, see diagrams Figures 2 and 3),
in the presser foot and pass it under and to the rear of thefoot.
3. Place the material to be sewn as normal• Start at slow speed
observing if cord is feeding correctly and increase speed asneeded.
FOR JOINING SHOULDERS OR SLEEVES, pass the cord
• through the front hole, ensuring that it is fixed between the left
and right needle threads as it is guided through the front hole.
(Fig. 2).
FOR JOINI_ SIDE SEAMS

FOR DECORATIVE EFFECTS, you may pass contrasting
colours either through the front or rear hole or if you desire,
pass cord or yarn through each hole.
FOR MAKING WAVED HEM WITH GUT (Fig, 4), pass the gut
through the rear hole and start ROLL HEMMING (See page 20).
This is used for the hem of skirt, etc.
PESPUNTE ENCORDONADO
El pespunte encordonado se puede usar para fortalecer las

usar hilo de tricotar con contraste de colores, Su bucle de punto

PARA UNIR HOMBRERAS O MANGAS pasar el cord6n atraves dei ' anterior ase( ur_,ndose de
entre los hi!os de las agujas derecha e izquierda cuando es
guiado a trav6s del agujero frontal (Fig. 2).
PARA UNIR COSTURAS LATERALES pasar el cord6n a traves
del agujero posterior, asegur&ndose de que est& presionado
junto al hilo de la aguja derecha (Fig. 3).
PARA EFECTOS DECORATIVOS el cordon rellenador puede
usarse contrastando diferentes colores y pasando a traves de
los agujeros anterior o posterior del prensatelas.
PARA HACER DOBLADILLO ONDULADO CON LA CUERDA
(Fig.4), pasar la cuerda a traves del agujero posterior y
empezar dobladillo enrollado. (Ver p&gina 21)

In addition to normal overlocking which is fully described in this
instruction book, your machine can also be used for a number
of decorative applications such as decorative top-stitching,
butted seams, pin-tucking or making lengths of decorativebraid. See below.
Decorative top-stitching - using three threads (flat seam)
Fold fabric along the line to be top-stitched and sew over the
folded edge, making sure not to cut into the fold. (Fig1)
Unfold the fabric, pull the ends of the threads to the underside
and press flat. (Fig.2)
The final appearance can be enhanced by using buttonhole
twist or embroidery thread on the lower looper.
Butted seams - using three threads (flat seam)
Place two pieces of fabric wrong sides together and overlock
along the edge, Unfold and press. (Fig.3)
By using different coloured fabrics and thread a pleasing
'patchwork' effect can be achieved.
Pin-tucking - using three threads
Fold fabric along a line to be pin-tucked and overlock sew along
the folded edge, making sure not to cut into the folded edge of
the fabric. (See page 31). Pull ends of threads to the underside
and press. (Fig.4)
Making decorative braid - using three threads
Overlock over a cord or braid, holding it carefully with both
hands, making sure notto cut the edge. (See page 31). (Fig5)
NOTE: *If you use blind hem foot (option, see page 34),
decorative stitch is made easily.
*'*Reduce the upper looper tension when you use thickthread.

Plegar el tejido a Io largo de una linea donde se desea realizar
et vivo y coser a Io largo del borde plegado, asegur&ndonos de
no cortar el borde. (Ver p&gina 31). Para evitar el corte
acompar_aremos al telido con ambas manos. ( Fig. 4)
Hacer trenzas decorativas - usando 3 hilos
Coser un pespunte sobre un cordon o trenza mateniendolo
cuidadosamente con ambas manos, asegur&ndonos de no
cortar el horde. (Ver pagina 31). ( Fig. 5)
NOTA: *Si use el pie de plegado o puntada invisible (opci6n,ver p&gina 34), puede obtener puntada decorativaf&cilmente.

5. OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES
BLIND HEM FOOT (o.s-#J50882)(1.0- #J50883)
Blind hem feet are obtainable as an optional extra and areavailable in two sizes. 0.5 for fine-medium fabrics and 1.0 for
medium/heavy fabrics.
Fit the appropriate foot.
Set the stitch length 4 - 5.
Proceed as follows:
1. Turn up the hem to the required depth (1) and press. Fold
the hem back against the 'right' side of the garment, creating
a 'soft'. fo!d nn th_ 'wrnng' side of the fabric - see Fig. 1.
2. Place fabric under the presser foot with the 'wrong' side up.
Feed the folded edge through the guide (3) in the front of the
foot and lower the presser foot lever. Try a stitch (or several
stitches) on a spare piece of the actual fabric, and adjust the
guide so that the needle just catches the fold. Adjust the
guide by means of the small screw (2) on the top of the foot
- see Fig. 2.
3. When correctly set, sew the hem. The outside edge will be
cut away by the machine - see Fig. 2. After completion,
open out and press again. The stitches should be almost
invisible on the 'right' of the fabric - see Fig. 3.

PIE DE PLEGADO O PUNTADA INVISIBLE(0.5 - #J50882) (1.0 - #J50883)
Los pliegues o doblados de puntada invisible dan un acabado
duradero e invisible y ahorra horas de tedioso cosido a mano.
Hay dos tipos de pies disponibles, uno para tejidos delgados yotro para tejidos gruesos.
Acoplar el pie de pliegue de puntada invisible apropiado y fijar
la Iongitud de puntada en 4 - 5. Hacer una prueba usando
algt_n tejido similar al de la prenda a coser.
Colocando el reverso del tejido hacia arriba, et primar doble
puede reatizarse a 65 mm. como m&ximo (1).
Con el reverso del tejido hacia arriba hacer cuidadosamente
el primer pliegue trayendo el resto del tejido de laizquierda
para hacer un segundo pliegue o doblado en la parte
superior cerca del borde del tejido (Ver Fig. 1).
Con el tejido asi, colocarlo debajo del pie prensatelas de
puntada invisible, avanzar el borde plegado a trav_s de la
guia (3) enfrente del pie y bajar la palanca elevadora del pie
prensatelas. Ahora coser un par de puntadas. El hilo de la
aguja izquierda ha de coger la esquina dei pliegue.
Si es necesario ajustar la guia mediante el tornillo (2)
mostrado en la Fig. 2.
3. Cuando este correctamente fijado, coser el pliegue, el borde
exterior sera. cortado por la m&quina (ver la Fig. 2). Despu_s
de coserlo, abrirlo, las puntadas sedan practicamente
invisibles en el lado "derecho o anverso" del tejido (Fig. 3).

2. Replace regular presser foot with gathering foot.
3. Clip both fabric layers approximately 5/8"(1.5 cm.) insideand 1 1/2"(4 cm.) down.
Lift front of presser foot to place fabric.
4. Place fabric to be gathered (2) underneath the presser foot.
Place fabric which will remain straight (1) between presser
foot and iower metal piece. Push clipped portion througtlslot in foot. Lower presser foot.
5. Turn handwheel to make 4 - 5 stitches in the fabric, makingsure to catch both upper and lower layers.
6. Serge. Use both hands to guide fabric, one on the under
layer of fabric. Keep in mind that the lower piece of fabricwill move faster as it is gathering than the top piece.
