Single Heart: Straight Mind
Welcome to St Petri this
morning. The Holy Spirit
gathers us in the
presence of Christ in this
place. We thank God for
each other and his voice
we receive in heart and
mind today. We are glad
you are here!
There is a battle going
on for hearts and minds
of our young people.
Today we acknowledge
this for six young people
affirming their faith in
God; Father, Son and
Spirit and their families.
Everyone, good or bad,
wants the hearts and
minds of young people.
From Apple to
McDonalds, to TAFE,
School, University,
sporting clubs and
community groups,
young people are
sought after because
they carry the future with
them.
All these competing
voices aimed at
capturing the heart and
mind of young people
make life for a teenager
or young adult hard to
navigate.
We pray that for these
young people, their
families and all of us of
every age that, any
confusion, insecurity,
fear, disconnection or
pain would be replaced
by that great gift of faith
in Jesus – JOY. Not fickle
happy feelings, or us
trying to make our heart
single focussed on God
or our mind straight and
true, but joy that comes
from his single heart of
love and straight mind
that gave us everything
of himself in the cross.
4 Rejoice in the Lord
always. I will say it again:
rejoice!
(Philippians 4:4)

Building Redevelopment The Motion to be put to the meeting on Sunday 22nd October
That St Petri Lutheran Church Inc. redevelop the existing Church building by extending the north and south sides, creating an easy access drop-off zone, and replace the pews with chairs, as outlined on Page 12 of the “St Petri Lutheran Church - Building to Serve Our Community” booklet.
This means that the Northern extension, toilets and the Sanctuary on the Southern side of the church will be built. The pews will be replaced by chairs which will enable the church to be used in a variety of ways, facing East, South or any other configuration of chairs for Messy Church meetings and so on. The existing Eastern Sanctuary will retain the Altar, pulpit, font, lectern and other furniture and fittings presently there. A new set of Sanctuary furniture will be made from the pews for the Southern Sanctuary. This will provide maximum flexibility within the building. Also included is the Southern extension which includes more spacious, modern and functional areas for Pastors, Pastoral Assistants, Admin Staff, Business Manager, Parish Nurses, Child Youth & Family Co-ordinator, Volunteers as well as room for a variety of other uses.
Further, a drop off and pick up area to the West (front) of the church will provide easy access for funerals and weddings as well as for delivering people for church.
The meeting will be held immediately after the 8.30 am and 10.30 am services.
Voting slips can be collected in the foyer of the church before worship and immediately after worship. Only communicant members 16 years and older may vote. Completed votes shall be placed in the ballot boxes on departure.

We pray ...
• May God’s compassion be for the people who live in the Sonoma Valley and Napa Valley areas of California where fires have been destroying houses, work places, whole towns. We pray for those who have lost loved ones.
• Father God we ask you that in your love, you send your Holy Spirit to your people. At this time, open the minds and hearts of your church to hear and heed your word.
• We pray for God’s protection and blessing on Brian & Marie Mibus as they travel overseas for an extended period of time.
• God’s blessings on our young people: Ella Rothe, Amber Perry, Abby Materne, Joshua Knights, Sarah Zadow and Sharni Hoffmann who confirm their faith today. We ask God’s Spirit to live in all of our young folk as they study in schools and universities and work - as they learn, make friends and make choices. We pray that God would guide and guard their hearts and minds.
• We celebrate with Johnathon Edwards who will be 21 years old on Monday. God’s richest blessings.
• We pray for God’s healing and peace for those of our church family who are ill, facing medical treatment or recovering from surgery - and those who care for them: Audrey Gersch, Rosemary Lange, Margaret Kleinig, Stella Schulz (Tanunda Hospital), Trevor Angel, Rosemary Angel and Joan Leahy.
• We pray for members of our church family: Phil, Libby, John & Tom KRAHLING, David & Helen McARTHUR, Dean & Colleen NITSCHKE, Bert SCHULTZ, Trevor RUEDIGER, Michelle HOFFMANN, Glen & Dulcie SCHILLER, and Rodney & Judith ROSENZWEIG.
Church Membership Directory
The new long awaited membership directory is now out. You can pick up a

like). We also ask that you keep in mind that these directories are for our
members and guest members only.
Many thanks to Helen Walker for much time spent in updating records so that
this can be as up-to-date as possible.

Immanuel, Light Pass & Strait Gate Light Pass were accepted into the

Messy Church number eight was on Friday 6th October in St Petri Hall. Let me share a few special highlights from the day. We are continually overwhelmed by people the Lord is bringing through our Messy Church doors. I’m really not sure why we are surprised, as we are joined by many people from our church in prayer, asking God to bring people to us. And he does…but it still amazes us! On this occasion we had 85 participants and with this our hall was filled with an atmosphere of excitement, enthusiasm and expectation. Our outdoor area in the church office carpark was also well used with a hive of activities available to enjoy – and we were so thankful for the good weather on the day.
Our theme ‘Noah’s Ark – God’s promise’ was explored as our Celebration team told the story of Noah’s Ark. They had some amazing props including a large wooden Noah’s Ark and even Noah appeared! As the story was shared, the message came through that God was true to His promise and had given Noah and his family a new start after the flood. With this, God promised to never again flood the earth and gave the rainbow as a sign of His promise. The message included that God gives us all a new start. He is true to His promises for us and He promises that we can live forever with Him if we trust and follow Him. The children all enjoyed our action song called ‘Our God is A Great Big God’ and we loved having one young Messy Church participant bravely come forward to help lead the actions. We are excited to help our young people grow, as they become more involved at Messy Church.
Our regional Messy Church Coordinator Jenny Carver came to visit on Messy Church day and she shared an observation with me about the afternoon that I must share. Jenny told me that she thought our Messy church team of volunteers were just amazing. She saw their ability to relate to our families, their passion in serving and the huge effort they were putting in. So, I say thank you to all of our volunteers at Messy Church. The volunteers that are seen and unseen. We have many helpers in upfront roles, but many behind the scenes. Thank you for all you do.
Lastly, I thank the many folk who prayed for our Messy Church. Whether you joined us in prayer from home or work at 11.15am on that Friday, or if you prayed throughout the week, thank you. Prayer is vital, because it is not by our might or power, but by the spirit of God that hearts will be moved and changed forever. Please keep Messy Church in your prayers. This ministry is growing rapidly and we need to think big with God about the vision that He has for us in this ministry. We don’t want to be limited in vision, but we want to do the Lord’s will. So, please join us in praying for His will to be done. May we have the ears to hear Him and hearts to obey.
