• What is envirowareTM?

envirowareTM is a new line of biodegradable single use products including plates, bowls, trays, hinged containers, straws, stirrers and cutlery products.

• What is envirowareTM made from?

Depending upon the product, envirowareTM is made from either polypropylene or polystyrene plastic and a compound called AOC (Active organic Catalyst).

• Does envirowareTM contain GMO’s (Genetically Modified Organisms)?

No, envirowareTM does not contain any GMO’s.

• Isn’t polystyrene considered a dangerous product?

The initial story that claimed dangerous chemicals from polystyrene will migrate into foods when these foods are stored or heated in polystyrene containers originated on the internet and was then picked up by one major news organization. The American Chemistry Association and many other well respected research organizations have refuted this claim and the news agency retracted its story.

• Doesn’t Plastic last forever?

Plastic in it’s unaltered state is non-biodegradable, but when it is manufactured with AOC and made into envirowareTM, it becomes biodegradable.

• How does the AOC make envirowareTM biodegradable?

Traditional plastic does not biodegrade because the molecular structure is too complex for micro-organisms to break down and metabolize. The AOC in envirowareTM attracts microorganism to colonize on the plastic. Stimulating them to secrete an enzyme that simplifies the molecular structure of the plastic. At this point the micro-organisms are able to metabolize the plastic into organic matter.

• How does envirowareTM hold up to heat?

Unlike bio-based products, envirowareTM can withstand temperatures in excess of 250o Fahrenheit. envirowareTM is also microwave safe*.

• Where will envirowareTM biodegrade?

envirowareTM will biodegrade in traditional waste streams as well as in water or sludge environments.

• How long will it take envirowareTM products to biodegrade?

Dependent on the weather conditions, envirowareTM will completely biodegrade in as few as 5 years, but could take up to 10 years dependent on atmospheric and conditions. That is pretty quick considering tra-ditional plastic will be around for more than 1000 years.

• Is there any proof that envirowareTM does biodegrade?

Yes, a well respected independent research laboratory has conducted tests on plastics containing AOC. They have found that it meets ASTM D5209-91, ASTM D5338.98 and ASTM 551 standards for biodegradation.

• Is envirowareTM considered a bio-based product?

No, envirowareTM is a petroleum based product.

• Aren’t bio-based products more environmentally friendly than envirowareTM?

No. Bio-based products consume valuable agricultural land that has traditionally been used for the food supply chain. Crop rotation is not practiced for bio-based crops therefore additional chemical fertilizers are introduced into the soil that leaches into the groundwater. This contaminated ground water collects into major water-ways causing “dead-zones” that have resulted in fish-kills and the disruption of major eco-systems. Harvesting and converting agricultural products into bio-based plastics such as Poly lactic Acid (PLA) consumes anywhere from 20% to 40% more energy than traditional plastic resin production.

When you consider all of the factors or metrics involved in the production of bio-based products versus envirowareTM, envirowareTM is much more environmentally friendly.

• Are bio-based products biodegradable?

Bio-based products are only compostable. This means that in order for these products to biodegrade they must be sent to an industrial composting landfill. Less than 1% of all commercial landfills in the USA are composting landfills.

• Will bio-based products biodegrade in a backyard or private compost?

No. These bio-based products require that the composting conditions reach a very high heat index. These conditions are only achievable within the industrial composting facilities.

• Are bio-base products recyclable?

No. The introduction of bio-based products into either the plastic recycling system or paper recycling system will contaminate the system, making all of its contents unusable.

Single-use foodservice products are made to be safe and clean enough to

eat or drink with. Dispoz-o uses sanitary processes to make these products,

and then package them to preserve their cleanliness until they’re purchased

and used. They’re not typically designed for sharing or reuse, just disposal.

Not only do single-use foodservice products protect from the spread of

disease-causing germs, but they save water too.

Dishwashers not only use a lot of water, they also use a lot of energy to

heat the water hot enough to sanitize the dishes. When all the costs of

reusable and single-use items are added up and compared, single-use

foodservice products make more “cents”.

Scientific studies have shown that single-use foodservice packaging

products are significantly cleaner than reusable cutlery. They offer less

opportunity for contamination from careless handling or poor dishwashing.

In a microbiological study of foodservice operations, reusable cutlery had an

average bacteria load of 410 colonies per utensil, as opposed to only 2

colonies per utensil on single-use products. The acceptable level of

bacteria on foodservice items, as set by the National Research Council, is

less than 100 colonies per utensil.

Single-use foodservice packaging products are more than just a convenience.

Single-use foodservice packaging products, since they are used only one time and for one patient, minimize the opportunity for food contamination. They are an important measure of prevention we can take to keep food safe and patients healthy.

Nearly half of the outbreaks of food-borne disease occur in restaurants, cafeterias, schools, delicatessens and other foodservice operations, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. For good reason, foodservice managers rank overall sanitation as their number one issue of concern.
