Singtel Satellite Teleport
Why Satellite
• Reach – A single satellite can cover 1/3 of the earth. In addition, a satellite has
multiple beams of coverage, each can be of same or different band/frequencies.
With this flexibility, hot zones/areas can be served with multiple beams to delivery
higher throughput. Some beams can be steerable to increase coverage over
hotspots when needed.
Example of satellite coverage:
Why Satellite (Cont.…)
• Reliability – Satellite Networks are reliable, providing constant connectivity free
from terrestrial disasters and physical line failures. Backup can be deployed as
quickly as within minutes and hours instead of days and months for land lines.
• Security – Satellite Networks are private networks. By adding encryption, they can
provide a more secure connection than terrestrial networks, ideal for governmental
networks.
• Scalability – Circuit and Network size can be scaled up or down quickly to respond
to needs.
• Flexibility – Satellite terminations are not physically tied to land lines. They can
move to a new location as fast as within the same day.
• Fast Deployment – Satellite solution is ideal for quick deployment, immune to
challenges posed by difficult terrain, remote location, terrestrial obstacles and local
last mile arrangements.
Applications of Fixed Satellite Communications

GX Enterprise and Energy
Energy
• High mobility, quick setup, extremely reliable
• Application: mining, oil exploration and Energymanagement (Solar farm)
Enterprise
• High bandwidth at extremely low cost globally, highsecurity
• Application: HD video streaming, education, telemedicine
• FSS and MSS becomes blur by introducing GX solution
• Inmarsat strategy: Explosive of high data usage requires more bandwidth and high data rate, relies on GX.
Mission critical data will still be relying on BGAN
• GX is to compliment BGAN, not to replace BGAN
