SinterMet rolls are built to last. We design
and produce high performance rolls for all
of your critical applications where tungsten
carbide will provide the best performance.
Rod Mill RollsPrefinisher RollsPrefinisher rolls must be tough, impact resistant and long-wearing. We engineer our rolls to provide high transverse rupture and compressive strength to maximize their performance and create a product that runs longer than any in the industry.
Wire Rod Mill RollsThe performance of wire rod mill rolls is directly related to appropriate grade selections. Producing a superior “custom” roll per stand — created for your specific conditions — results in increased tonnage per groove and superior product quality.
Sizing Mill RollsOn sizing mill stands, wear resistance is the number one concern. SinterMet manufactures sizing mill rolls to maximize the tonnage rolled before redress. We do it by ensuring the appropriate grade selection per stand.
Pinch RollsSinterMet pinch rolls are durable and available in composite or solid tungsten carbide designs. These rolls offer maximum wear resistance and minimum downtime due to breakage. They last years with little maintenance.
Kocks Mill RollsThe performance of kocks mill rolls is directly related to appropriate grade selections. Producing a superior “custom” roll per stand — created for your specific conditions — results in increased tonnage per groove and superior product quality.
• SinterMet’s next generation high wear resistant SVCR-9 powder metallurgy tool steel
- Bonded to a high strength, corrosion resistant alloy steel shaft
• Specially heat-treated to exact specifications to ensure:
- Optimum toughness - Outperforming cast iron by a factor of
three to six times
• Unlike the conventional casting process: - Shur-Clad’s unique powder metallurgy
process has a very high alloy content - Eliminates alloy element (carbide)
segregation by rapidly solidifying powder particle to uniform chemistry
- Advanced hot isostatic pressing at high pressures make it possible for solid densification to eliminate:
• Non-Uniform Precipitation • Massive Growth of Carbides

shaft (bottom portion of image.)
SinterMet’s New Engineered SolutionShur-Clad

• Shur-Clad’s next generation SVCR-9 is superior to conventional steels because:
- High alloy composition - Small (1- 3 um) and uniformly distributed
carbides such as VC (Vanadium Carbide) - Uniform matrix - Consistent hardness from new diameter to
scrap diameter• Can withstand a minimum speed of 2.5 meters /
second• Has no maximum speed threshold• Best suited for: - Intermediate Stands of Wire Rod Mills - Intermediate and Finishing Stands of Bar Mills• Applicable to the production of a variety of bar and
rod shapes and sizes

MATERIAL GRADE SELECTION FOR SHUR-LOCK COMPOSITE ROLLS
SinterMet offers the industry’s broadest range of grades to satisfy the needs of your rolling operation. SinterMet will evaluate the mill parameters including the shape of the product being rolled, the speed of the rolling operation, cooling conditions, machining capabilities and reduction per stand to determine the optimum grade for your operation.

Shur-LockThe Right Answer for Your Mill
Shur-Lock composite rolls increase mill utilization by as much as 10 times versus cast iron. That’s the kind of performance
that goes right to the bottom line. Greater uptime, fewer delays, reliable performance.

• Manufactured using high performance rolling rings
• Produced from a variety of materials including:
• High Performance Tungsten Carbide • Special Powder Metallurgy Tool Steel
• Secured on an arbor by SinterMet’s patented locking mechanism
• Arrives fully assembled and ready for immediate use
• Disassembly is easy and hassle free
• Training and Technical Support offered by SinterMet
To assemble the system, rolling rings and steel spacers are placed on the alloy steel arbor
(A), followed by the Shur-Lock patented locking components (B). Once assembled, the system is pressurized with up to 2,500 bar (or 250 MPa), which literally stretches the steel arbor (C). The
space is filled simply by hand tightening the outer nut (D). Hydraulics are released which results in a
mechanically locked and ready-to-roll system. 1 2
• Full Surface area contact between components: • No wedge rings, keyways, or tapers • Only full surface area contact assuring stress points • Optimizes load bearing capabilities
• Countered by 500 Tons (one million pounds of clamping force):
• Roll ring slippage is not a concern • Increases the pass life • Decreases the propagation of heat cracks
and provides improved impact resistance
• Available in two configurations: • First one is designed with the Double Nut
located at the end of the arbor • With the second, for multi-strand rolling,
the locking components are located in the middle of the arbor
• The ability to roll four strands while maximizing the available rolling area on the body sets the Shur-Lock System apart from every other in the world
