Verbo - "To Be"
Conjugación Inglés Español
1ª per. singular I am yo soy/estoy
2ª per. singular you are tú eres/estás
3ª per. singular
he is
she is
It is
él es/está
ella es/está
(para objetos)
1ª per. plural we are nosotros/as somos/estamos
2ª per. plural you are vosotros/as sois/estais
3ª per. plural they are ellos/as son/están
Como refleja la tabla
El verbo to be tiene tres formas:
am, is y are. La forma am solo se utiliza para la 1ª persona del singular,
is solo para la 3ª persona del singular,
are para las restantes personas.
Es el hecho de unir palabras Para hacer estas contracciones
utilizamos el apóstrofe- Este apostrofe es solo una coma
situada en la parte superior.

El pronombre personal sujeto no varía.
Se modifica es la forma del verbo, - Pierde la primera sílaba y se
sustituye por el apóstrofe.
Veamos algunas frases utilizando contracciones:
It´s part-time. -> Es a tiempo parcial.They´re famous. -> Ellas son famosas.
I´m Carlos. -> Yo soy Carlos.She´s impatient. -> Ella está
impaciente.
El verbo (to) be se conjuga de esta forma:I am (yo soy, estoy)
You are (tú eres, estás) He/ she/ it (Él, ella, ello es /está)
We are (nosotros/as somos/estamos) You are (vosotros/as sóis/estáis) They are (ellos/as son /están).

Dependiendo del sentido de la frase deduciremos de cual de los dos se trata.
I am English / Soy inglés I am in England / Estoy en Inglaterra
Sirve para expresar la edad, en cuyo caso se traduce por 'tener':
Mary is 20 years old / Maria tiene 20 años I am 21 / Yo tengo 21 años How old are you? / ¿Cuántos años tienes?

PRESENTE DE INDICATIVO
TO BE + INFINITIVO
Cuando al verbo 'to be' le sigue un infinitivo
adquiere una importancia especial:- Es una forma de dar instrucciones u
órdenes de manera impersonal.She is to stay here till we return / Ella debe quedarse aquí hasta que volvamos(en lugar de 'She must stay....')
Sirve para establecer un planShe is to be married next year / Ella va a casarse el año próximo
