•• I. believe that everything-whether it's bad, whether it's good, orwhether you feel you've made the worst mistake of your life-it's all inGod's plan. And you have to say thanks, God, for that, too. Becausethat takes you to where He needs you to be. "
Jamie: Who was stealing, the uncle?Saaphyri: Yeah, the uncle.
Jamie: Out of the bank or what? How washe stealing money?Saaphyri: He became conservotor. andonce he became the conservotor hebegan to filter out money without tellingthe courts exactly what he was doing. Sowe knew he was taking money out of bankaccounts, and he was selling propertiesand not reporting it.
Jamie: Well. your father had a lot becauseafter this accident-he won a lot of moneyor something? How did your father have alot of money, or did he?Saaphyri: Well, my dad, he was a hardworker. He had an auto body and paintshop that he's had since the 70s. He was, like, one of the first Black men in LA toactually do it like on a scale that youwould get. money from insurance compa-nies opposed to somebody just payingcash. He actually structured it to where itwas business. And then he bought proper-ty. Once he did that that's how he got the
bulk of his money. When he had the acci-dent he got money from that settlementtoo. Once that money came in, then. youknow, it was just a lot You know people:When money is involved people change,Jamie.
Jamie: I know.Saaphyri: I don't even know how to-explain it. It was like that whole situation'was so hurtful. Because I thought that evenif my uncle and my father had their (differ-ences), I never would've thought that hewould have did the things that he did. formoney.
Jamie: Was your father still alive?Saaphyri: When he was stealing? When hestarted taking money he was alive. At theend, by the time all this other stuff hap-pened, my dad was dead.
Jamie: So then what happened?Saaphyri: We got my uncle out of this con-servctor position and my brother becameconservator on a Friday. My dad was overat this uncle's house. My father died on,like, Sunday, after the conservatorship wastransferred over to my brother. So there's ahlsrorv and it's like I can't say, "Oh, he didsomething:' because there's nothing thatsays, "Oh, he did something." But in my
heart I feel that something is not right youknow? And even with him stating that I wasable to do this financial thing so I could getthis scar removed, I should have knownbetter than to go into an agreement withhim, knowing how he is. But I just I didn'tknow. So I just take responsibility of Ishould've not did it.
Jamie: So what did you do?Saaphyri: It was just a financial agreementthat he agreed to pay for the removal ofthe scar, and then he said he didn't agreeto it. .
Jamie: And then what did you do in themeantime? The scar is not removed.Saaphyri: I went to a plastic surgeon andhe removed it but he didn't completelyremove it. It's still there. But my uncle saidthat he didn't agree tothe financialcharges. When he said he didn't agree toit, it doesn't matter if I say, ''Yes, he didagree." .
Jamie: So you went to jail for that?Saaphyri: That's what I went to jail for .... Istill tried to make up with my. uncle, and I
think that squashed mostly everything. I justlook at it like, with the good comes thebad.
. Jamie: Is your uncle still around?Saaphyri: He's still around.
Jamie: But your brother took over as fheconservotor?Saaphyri: Yeah, he's conservotor, But soonas my brother became conservotor. mydad died a few days after that. So evenwith him becoming conservotor, it didn'tmatter because the· conservatorshipended because he was deceased. Sonow it becomes probate.
Jamie: Oh my god.Saaphyri: Yeah, so we went back andforth to court for a long time.
Jamie: When you were sentenced, youwere supposed to turn yourself in shortlyafter? How soon after were you supposedto go in?Saaphyri: I was sentenced in November of2005. Now, I'm going to show you how Godworks here, too, Jamie. I was sentenced inOctober 2005. I was supposed to turnmyself in in November 2005. So I prayed onit. And God was like, "Don't turn yourself in."
And I know people be like, "God ain't
say that; that's you saying you don't wantto go to jail." But really and truly, God saiddon't turn yourself in. So I didn't turn myselfin.
About a month or so after that I was onthe computer on Craigslist and it was like,"Do you want to date a .rapper?" I wasthinking, "Why. not?" Date a rapper soundsokay, right? So that's what I ended updoing, "Flavor of Love:' season 2.
Jamie: What did you do to get on thatshow?Saaphyri: It was on.ernoll address onCraigslist. They said email us a picture andjust tell us a little bit about yourself. So Iemailed a picture, what have you, andthey called me in for an audition. They filmyou, they ask you some questions and youfalk or whatever. So they ended up likingmy personality and they brought me backagain to meet the producers. Once I cameback and did that, they were like, "Okay,we want you on the show." So I was like,"Okay, cool.
So I end up going to do the show. I'mthinking, "I'm fin'na be on here; I'm fin'na
kill all this stuff." And 10 and behold, I getinto an altercation with another contestantwithin five minutes of going up the stairs.
Jamie: Now what happened there?Saaphyri: Jamie, it wasn't even a wholeday. We had filmed the little part outsideand we went into the house to pick ourrooms orwhatever. and it was within thefirst 20 minutes of me entering into thehouse.
And what happened was, basically, there was a bed in the room and the girlsaid. "Oh, this is my bed." And when I hadgotten there, there Was nobody there. So Iwas like, "I will keep it now:' and she waslike, "No, this is my bed." And we wentback and forth.
Well, she was already upset 'causewhen we were outside. Flav came aroundand had given everyone flowers and heforgot to give me a flower. So instead ofgiving me one, he ended up giving me awhole bouquet. 'Cause I was like, "Oh, youdidn't give me any flowers." So the girl sawthat and that became a jealousy thing alittle later because she was like, "Oh, she'sgetting too much attention."
So, back to the bed, my bouquet offlowers is sitting on the pillow and so she's,like, moving them. And I'm moving them
