AmmoniaAmmonia is a dangerous, corrosive chemical found in hair colour & has been linked to increase the risk of certain cancers. It is also linked to affect reproduction as well as other chronic health effects from long-term use.

Which chemicals should you be aware of?

Organic IngredientsCommon personal grooming items are full of carcinogenic chemicals. Any product that is absorbed by the skin is more thoroughly ingested than when it is swallowed. Organic products are free of chemical pesticides that have been shown to be harmful to health.

SulphateSulphate (SLS) is used as an inexpensive detergent to make products foam. SLS is easily absorbed by the body & builds up in the heart, liver and brain. SLS can also affect eye health, especially in developing eyes of children.

ParabensParabens are chemicals used as preservatives and are absorbed into your body, sometimes being mistaken for estrogen, disrupting the hormonal system and are consequently linked to hormone-related diseases.

PhthalatesPhthalates, often used in modern plastics are also used as gelling agents & stabilizers. Association has been found between phthalate exposure and endocrine disruption leading to development of breast cancer. Phthalates can be additive, so even very small amounts can interact with other chemicals to have cumulative “cocktail effects”.

PPDPPD is very common in hair dyes and is mostly responsible for allergic reactions and irritation. It can cause rashes and itching in allergy cases, but may also trigger asthma, eczema and may even damage kidneys and lungs from long-term exposure.
