RIVERWALK SITE
The rolling wooded landscapes and proximity to the river drew the CATAWBA INDIANS to the land in the late 1500s. The presence of the ford allowed the tribe to control this well-traveled portion of the path to Virginia.
This was the beginning of Riverwalk’s great HISTORICAL LEGACY. This very site has significance in both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. It attracted a thriving textile industry in the early 1900s and was the site of a Celanese plant that would employ thousands of people after World War II into the 21st century. Still standing is the iconic Chicago Bridge & Iron water tower from 1946.
ASSURED GROUP OF COMPANIES is a seasoned developer renowned for expertise in brownfield reclamation. Assured Group has a proven track record of working with municipalities, land planners, historians and architects to restore environmentally distressed properties. This land and its historical relevance are legendary.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT IS REMARKABLE.

INTRODUCTION Riverwalk Brand | Design Brief
• Create a NEIGHBORHOOD TOWN CENTER that becomes the central hub and social GATHERING PLACE for the South Charlotte / Rock Hill / Fort Mill region.
• Celebrate the ACTIVE OUTDOOR LIFESYLE through affiliated events of the U.S. NATIONAL CYCLING CENTER, a 250 m world-class Olympic Velodrome in a park-like setting in the heart of Town Center.
• Incorporate UNIQUE BRANDED EXPERIENCES and venues such as the proposed YMCA Express, rock climbing wall features, and hiking/biking trails that feature direct access to the Carolina Thread Trail, and neighborhood PARKS AND OPEN SPACE.
• PRESERVE AND ENHANCE the natural amenities of the RIVER DISTRICT to become the premier location for where LOCALS FEEL GOOD and ENGAGE THEIR SURROUNDINGS.
• Use NATIVE STONE AND WATER in various applications and expressions as a rich and engaging storyteller throughout the project.
RIVERWALK is an active lifestyle with riverside homes, workplaces, shopping and dining all INTERACTING RESPONSIBLY with nature’s grand CATAWBA RIVER. Retail, food and beverage take advantage of the access and high visibility of two major highways. A central location, along with an innovative, WORLD-CLASS CYCLING velodrome, desirable demographics and a MAXIMIZED RIVERFRONT make Riverwalk an EXCEPTIONAL RETAIL OPPORTUNITY.
