EXCAVATIONS

First off, let’s start documenting about the excavations. So, I and my groupmates went to my dad’s construction project in Biñan, Laguna and Cabuyao, Laguna (But take note that I also took some pictures individually while going in some places). The construction is almost done with most of the works left are the finishing works but we were lucky to still be able to document pictures about wall footing and column footing excavations.

Excavation is any man-made cavity or depression in the earth’s surface; formed by earth removal. First picture is an excavation for septic tank with some CHB laying done.

Wall footings

A strip of reinforced concrete that is wider than the wall it supports and thus distributes the wall load over a wider area.

Column Footings

Concrete footings reinforced with steel pads or un-reinforced; used as supports for columns which in turn carry the load of beams which serve as supports for the superstructure of a building.

CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS

This picture is an example of a typical Filipino barracks. The engineer said that it is only a temporary barracks for the workers while they are at work. He actually rented them a low-cost apartment unit near the project for them to stay in at night.

To be particular, the one in the picture are woods.

The first picture shows an example of an amount of white sand while the second picture is concrete hollow blocks. The third picture shows a worker working on the mixer.

ELECTRICAL

I’ve also seen some electrical materials. I’ve seen an example of an electrical junction box (1st picture) and electrical panel board (2nd picture).

PLUMBING

These are pictures showing how the plumbing runs throughout a part of the badminton court.

DETAILING

Next up is some of the detailing works that we’ve noticed. There’s not much pictures of detailing works that were captured because the construction is almost one. But again, we were able to take some pictures about detailing on making connections, esp. on scaffoldings.

The first picture clearly shows the connection of a part of scaffolding. Fixed clamp was used to join them together. A clamp is any of various devices used to join, grip, support, or compress mechanical or structural parts.

WORKS

Page 9: Site Inspection in the Philippines

We arrived there early in the morning and we noticed that the workers are already up for some tasks. Most tasks though are focused on CHB laying and finishing works.

This picture shows the installation of a metal furring for ceiling. The orange part there is the electrical. It is the distribution of electricity with respect to the lights. The one below it, the gray one, is the metal furring. Above it is the wooden framing that also supports the roofing.

This picture shows the roofing on sea Purlins. The one on the middle is the seat Purlins, while at the bottom; the one supporting it is a part of the truss, above the Purlins is the GI sheet.

This picture shows the details on the roofing. The orange one is the electrical part for the lighting. The bottom part is the metal furring ceiling. The truss is also visible. It is an example of a Howe truss.

This picture shows the tie beam at the bottom. This is a soft foundation for the CR. There are also columns that will support the walls of the CR.

This picture shows an example of a floor framing. This is a wooden floor framing. As you can see, it only has a small area because as the engineer said, it is only a part of the attic.

In the first picture, it shows a worker manually mixing and CHB laying for fence while the second picture shows the mortar that was put inside the CHB.

This picture shows the preparation for a septic tank. You can also see that while working the worker is also smoking. TYPICAL Filipino right there

These pictures show the assembling of a canopy framing. This is a steel work.

The picture above shows the preparation of Flatform for CHB laying. The picture below shows the CHB wall laying for the first floor. The area is still bare.

These pictures are example of a paraphet wall. This was taken on the roofing a chapel construction.

The first picture above is a wall angle installation for ceiling and the second picture shows an installation of reinforcing steel bars for floor slab.

While I know that the first picture focuses on the shoring jack installation, what I want you to see is the first floor ceiling and the walls on the first floor. The second picture focuses on the wall laying of the second floor, as you can see; you can still see clear skies here because roof works are not yet done for this project.

These pictures show the installation of ground concrete slab reinforcing bars in preparation for concrete pouring.

FINISHING

The first picture is a stairs finishing work while the second picture is a kitchen rough-in finishing work.

The first picture shows a worker working on the application of prime coat for painting or pagmamasilya. The second picture is a tile finishing work for the CR.

ROOFING

Page 21: Site Inspection in the Philippines

MAPUA INSTITUTE OF TEHNOLOGY

Intramuros Campus

The first picture is actually an example of a hip roof while the second picture is an example of a hip-valley roof. As you can also see in the first picture, it is a two sided hip roof as that is a corner lot house. You can also see in the first picture an example of shed roofing. These are model houses at Flamingo Lanes Subdivision, Antipolo.

Page 22: Site Inspection in the Philippines

This is an example of a hip valley roof. This is a sample of a finished duplex house, said by the engineer.

Page 23: Site Inspection in the Philippines

Clearly, we can see a hip roofing here. Same with the pictures above, it is a two sided hip roof. But what is new here? It has an overhang at the right side which adds flare to the design of the house. These are model houses at Bloomingdale Subdivision Imus, Cavite.

The first picture is an example of a dome type of roofing. That is actually a badminton court while the other picture is a chapel with an unusual type of roofing. The engineer said that it is a curve type of roofing.

If there’s one thing that I learned from this experience, it is that

“BAWAL ANG SOSYAL SA CONSTRUCTION SITE.”
