  • III. Urgent Needs

    Sector Urgent Needs

    Shelter

    All temporary shelters are located in a mountainous area with cold nights. Priority interventions:

    a. Tarpaulin as wall coverings

    b. Tarpaulin for bedding

    WASH

    LEARN assists 2,500 IDPs in LOSD Tiga Binanga which only have 4 toilets with limited water

    access.

    Urgent needs:

    WATER

    a. Water gallons standby at each post

    b. Drinking container (1 per person)

    c. Water Pump for supply to the toilets

    SANITATION

    a. Emergency Toilet (Mobile Toilets) in every temporary shelter

    b. Rubbish bins in every temporary shelter

    c. Waste management system

    HYGIENE

    a. Hygiene Promotion

    Distribution of hygiene kits (soap, toothpaste / toothbrushes, sanitary napkins, diapers for

    elderly, underwear, towels)

    Food

    Nutrition needs not adequately met.

    Needs: Distribution of fresh and nutritious foods (E.g.: fresh fish, vegetables, fruits)

  • Health

    Establishment of government health posts (Drugs & Medical) in every temporary shelter to

    monitor the health situation and prevent diseases.

    Protection

    Shelter without dividers -lack of privacy room for families. Potential of gender-based violence and

    exposure of vulnerable groups (women, children, etc.)

    It is urgent to provide complaints/feedback boxes.

    Pscycosocial After 8 weeks of emergency evacuees social life is seriously affected

    Children

    Needs: facilitate children's activities and provide tools and toys: distribution children story book,

    drawing book, crayon, story telling, games for children (puzzle, origami, puppet shows)

    Adult

    Needs: Facilitation of stress related diseases and games

    *Red Higlight: high priority intervention

    IV. Response

    Government Response

    - Management information via Radio Communications (HT) in every temporary shelter, affected villages, and strategic

    locations

    - Provision of refugees data in every temporary shelter along with the shelter manager

    - Distribution of 1 water tank in each temporary shelter for cooking needs

    - Distribution of food (rice, vegetables) to every temporary shelter

    - Center for Volcanology and Disaster Mitigation keep doing intensive supervision due to the activities of Mt Sinabung

    - The National Disaster Management Agency allocated and channeled IDR 3.93 billion to the Regional Disaster
