Standing out from the crowd!
What research suggests…
Whether you aim to head straight for the workplace, or harbour dreams of university, extra skills lay the building blocks of an impressive CV.
Even if you have just banked stellar grades at GCSE, it’s never too soon to wake up to the fact that it is foolish to rely on your results alone. It would also be a mistake to assume your A-levels will shine as brightly in two years’ time; you need to make sure you stand out in as many other ways as possible.
It is wise, therefore, to hit the sixth form running: do not lose time in beginning to acquire skills and experience outside your subjects that will enable you to shine.
Taking Opportunities…
This year is about starting to plan for the future.
It is important that you take the opportunities available to you!

At the end of the Y12 students will sit the AS examinations.
AS examinations start on 16th May.
50% of the AS level in most subjects will be completed by Christmas.
Stand alone AS 1 year qualification.
Marks act as a guide towards progress and do not count towards A2.
AS grade can be ‘cashed’ if not continued into A2.
Equal weighting between AS (Y12) year and A2 (Y13) year.
Re-sit options are now only available the following summer (universities will ask for AS results when applying).
Studying within the Sixth Form...
BTEC Qualifications:
Equal weighting between Y12 Modules and Y13 Modules.
Constant assessment throughout Y12 and Y13.
2 year course commitment.
Subjects into Y13…
Students can continue with all Y12 subjects into Y13 if they choose.
A Level students often ‘drop’ one subject.
BTEC students are committed to the course for 2 years.
Requirements for Y13… Minimum of 3 A Levels or equivalent must meet entry requirements.
A Level continuation will only be allowed if you achieve a minimum of a D grade.
BTEC continuation will only be allowed if you achieve ‘pass’ in all units from Y12 and where applicable you are within 1 grade tolerance of your target grade. E.g. Distinction target must be on at least a Merit overall.
