From the Desk of Father Ed:

Dear Parishioners,

This weekend is the 6th Sunday of Easter and we are only two weeks away from celebrating Pentecost Sunday, the day the Holy Spirit is poured out upon the Church and the last Sunday of the Easter Season. This weekend we continue to hear the word proclaimed from the Gospel of John. Jesus reminded his disciples that soon he would be leaving them. He knew that his Passion was approaching yet his care and concern was focused on his disciples. He showed great love for them and was continually trying to strengthen them in their faith. He even told them that he was going to leave them but the Father would send them an Advocate, the Holy Spirit, to help them, the ordained leaders of the Church. The Holy Spirit would teach them the Gospel and remind them of everything that Jesus taught them.

Jesus said to his disciples: “Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him.” It is not enough for us to say that we love our God rather we need to obey his word. His word is given to us through Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, which is entrusted to the Church. The Church has received the gift of the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, who protects her from error in matters of faith and morality. If we love him by keeping faithful to his word then the Father and Jesus will make their dwelling within us, that is, they will remain in our hearts. And if they remain in our hearts we will receive the gift of his peace; the peace that comes from God not the peace the world gives. This gift of peace comes only from an indwelling of God in our hearts and keeps us fixed on his presence within us come what may in life.

The God that we worship is One God, the Blessed Trinity, which is a unity of Three Divine Persons, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jesus told his closest disciples that if they love him and keep his word that God would dwell in their hearts and they too would enter into the unity and life of the Three Divine Persons. The fruit of loving God and keeping his word is the gift of the Holy Spirit, and the gift he brings to us is his peace. As we continue in our Season of Easter, let us in the depths of our prayer tell the Lord that we love him and resolve to keep his word, safeguarded by his Church, so that the Father and his Son will dwell with us and we will experience his lasting peace here and now and for all eternity.

Our Lady Queen of Peace, pray for us,

Father Ed,

Administrator

Parish Life:

This Thursday, May 5th is Ascension Thursday, which is a Holy Day of Obligation, which means we are required to attend Mass on that day. Mass will be celebrated at 8:00 am and 7:00 pm.

The day after Ascension Thursday, Friday, May 6th, we will begin a 9-day Novena to the Holy Spirit. I invite you to come and join us during these 9 evenings of prayer that we dedicate to the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, the Holy Spirit. The novena is less than 30 minutes long but a powerful prayer to help our parish and to strengthen us in our spiritual life as we prepare for the celebration of Pentecost. See the bulletin for the schedule and come and join us.

Be sure to come and join us on our one day bus trip on Saturday, May 21st to visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral and walk through the Doors of Mercy and receive the indulgence (graces) from this Year of Mercy. We still have room on the bus. The trip will begin after the 8:00 am Mass on Saturday. We will have some time to do a little sightseeing near the Cathedral with lunch in Manhattan before returning to the bus around 2:30 pm. Come and join us for a fun day in the City and receive the blessings and grace that our God wants to give you. Call the office to sign up. The cost is only $25 and children under 12 are free.

Kiosk Media Center (at the rear of the Church)

One of the audio CDs on our display near the front entrance is “I’m Not Being Fed (Discovering The Food That Satisfies The Soul)” by Jeff Cavins. Jeff explores and responds to some of the reasons why so many people have left the Catholic Church

for evangelical Christianity. As he presents the story of his return to Catholicism, Cavins also builds a case for why the Catholic Church is the Church founded by Christ. Only $3 each. Jeff is the director of the Archbishop Flynn Catechetical Institute based in St. Paul, MN. As the founding host of EWTN's "Life On The Rock" he has been recognized internationally as an exciting public speaker who has a deep love for Jesus Christ and who communicates his zeal with clarity and enthusiasm. Over the past several years Jeff has dedicated his life to developing "The Great Adventure" - an extremely useful and practical interactive bible study system that enables students to understand the chronological flow of scripture.
