Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time

(Readings: Leviticus 13:1-2, 44-46 — 1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1 — Mark 1:40-45) A Dramatic Touch — Moved with pity, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched the leper. He didn’t

have to do that, and no one —least of all the leper himself—could reasonably have expected that he would. People in the crowd must have gasped in disbelief! No one could reasonably have expected that the

Blessed Virgin Mary would appear on September 19, 1846—least of all the two children to whom she did appear. Plenty of people around them expressed disbelief. But it didn’t take long for people to understand the meaning of the event. For Jesus, not even a leper was untouchable. The gates of hope had flown open

for everyone, so “people kept coming to him from everywhere.” No one was to be cast off. La Salette likewise demonstrates that no one need feel lost or cast off, beyond the touch of God’s grace. The gates of hope are still open, always open. Indeed, far from being cast off, we are invited, along with Maximin and Mélanie, not to be afraid, to “come closer.” Her message was certainly disconcerting. She made it clear

that her people were the ones who had created the distance between themselves and God, not the other way round. They had, for all practical purposes, cast him out of their lives. They didn’t worship him. They didn’t respect his name. They blamed him for their troubles. That is not the whole message, however.

There is a real possibility of conversion. Her people can “submit,” returning to the practice of their faith, and their trust in God will be abundantly repaid. But more is offered than the hope of survival and

prosperity. The full living out of the Christian way of life makes it possible, as St. Paul wrote to the fractious Christian community of Corinth, to “do everything for the glory of God.” Just think! We can

actually make our lives a song of praise. This is the purpose of Mary’s invitation and welcome, expressed in words as well as in her tone and her tears, her love and care and tenderness, touching our hearts as

surely and perhaps just as “dramatically” as Jesus touched the leper.

Support Our Troops

Twice a year, Blessed Trinity’s Council of Catholic Women sends out “Cookie for the Troops” Care Packages. Last November we sent 157 boxes of cookies and other

comforts of home to our troops serving in combat. We NEED your help again! Please donate items to send to our troops:

These small ubiquitous items we civilians take for granted can have an uplifting impact on the lives of

our service men and woman serving so far away from home. If you know a soldier in a combat zone and would like them to receive one of our care packs, please give their name and address to

Pat Matteson 407-733-3069 or the Parish Office. For more info please call Pat Matteson.

Please put donations in red box or bring your donations to the Welcome Center clearly marked “Troop Care Packs” by March 16th. The boxes will be packed on Saturday March 17th in

order for them to arrive before Easter. God bless you and thank you for your support!

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Esta semana recordamos a san Valentín, obispo y mártir. —Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc
